Salzburg, Austria
Over the Labor Day Weekend we went to Salzburg.

A view of Salzburg from the castle
Leopoldskron
Palace was built in 1731 by Archbishop Leopold Count Firmian as a residence for
his family. After 1837, when the Firmian family sold the estate, the building
changed owners many times and is now a five-star hotel. Leopoldskron Castle was
one of the more important locations for the film "The Sound of Music".
The rear view was used for the Von Trap Family home. The family drank lemonade
with the baroness on the terrace. Maria and the baron dance on the balcony
during the ball scene, and the children fell into the adjacent lake. The interior
of the home was also used.
The Eagle's Nest, perched 6017 ft up a mountain, was built as a 50th birthday present to Adolf Hitler from the Nazi Party. The 4 mile road leading to the house, the 406 ft marble-lined tunnel into the heart of the mountain which leads to the polished brass elevator which ascends another 406 ft into the house, and the house itself were completed in only 13 months time in 1937-38.
The Leopold
Mozart family lived in this home from 1747 to 1773. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was
born here on January 27, 1756. Today the rooms once occupied by the Mozart
family house a museum. The most famous exhibits include Mozart's childhood
violin, his concert violin, his clavichord, the pianoforte, portraits and
correspondence of the Mozart family.
