Lingo Meaning Useage
LOL Laugh out loud Used when somebody thinks something is funny
BRB Be right back While talking on an instant messenger or in a chat room this is used to tell somebody that you're stepping away from your computer for a short time (usually around a minute or 2).
A/S/L Age/sex/location When talking to somebody on an instant messenger or in a chat room this lingo is used to find out simple information about a person quickly. A person would reply with something like 17/F/USA.
M/F Male/Female This is normally used in chat rooms or on instant messengers when people have sign-ons which are gender neutral.
GSOH Good sense of humor This could be used to describe an aspect of your or someone else's personality.
TTYL Talk to you later While using chat rooms or instant messengers this would be used when a person is about to leave.
CU See you Similar to the useage of the lingo above.
TTFN Ta ta for now Similar to the useage of the lingo above.
n/p No problem Usually used in conversations.
BTW By the way Used in general conversation over the internet.
Esp. Especially Generally used in conversations over the internet.
Diff. Different Similar to the useage of lingo above.
ROFL Rolling on the floor laughing A person would use this lingo when they thought something was very funny.
LMAO Laughing my ass off A person would use this lingo when they thought something was funny.
n e wayz Anyway/s Slangy way of writing anyway/s.
Luv Love This is usually used when signing off e-mails, bulletin board messages etc.
AKA Also known as This can be used if your name was different to your sign-on. e.g. Karen AKA cutie1984.
AOL America Online (internet service provider) Used when referring to America Online.
ISP Internet service provider Generally used all around the internet.
CUL8R See you later This would usually be used in chat rooms or on instant messengers when one person was about to leave.
M8 Mate Could be used when referring to one of your friends.
IMHO In my humble opinion Usually used on message boards when debates are going on.
V. Very Generally used in conversations over the internet.
W/ With Generally used in conversations over the internet.
W/O Without Generally used in conversations over the internet.
FAQ Frequently Asked Questions This is usually used on professional or business websites when people may not know much about the subject/purpose of the site.
G2G/GTG Got to go This is usually used in chat rooms or on instant messengers when a person is saying that they have to leave the chat room or log off from the internet.
GL Good luck Can be used anywhere around the internet.
J/J Just joking Used generally in conversations over the internet.
J/K Just kidding Similar to useage of lingo above.
LYLAS Love ya like a sister Can be used to sign off e-mails, bulletin board messages etc when the receiving person is a girl.
LYLAB Love ya like a brother Same use as lingo above, but for a guy.
PC Personal computer Used generally all around the internet.
HTML Hypertext Mark-up Language (website building code) Usually used in copyright notes on websites when referring to who wrote the HTML code.
E-Mail Electronic mail Used generally all around the internet.
IM/PM Instant message/Private message Usually used when talking on instant messengers or in chat rooms.
PIC Picture Generally used all around the internet.
QT Cutie Generally used, but usually in chat rooms, on instant messengers, on message boards etc.
WB Welcome back or write back Welcome back - Usually used in chat rooms or on instant messengers when a person has just returned to the conversation.
Write back - Usually used to sign off e-mails when you want the other person to reply.
Min/s Minute/s Normally used in chat rooms, on instant messengers, on message boards etc.
B/F or G/F Boyfriend or girlfriend Normally used when talking about the subject of B/Fs and G/Fs.
# or No. Number Used generally all around the internet.
PW Password Usually used on websites, although this lingo is rarely used anywhere.
IRL In real life Normally used when referring to an offline event.
ITRW In the real world Same useage as lingo above.
Msg Message Used generally around the internet.
N/A Non-applicable or No answer Can be used on anything from message boards to professional websites.
TY Thank you Used in conversations in chat rooms and on instant messengers.
YW You're welcome Used in conversations in chat rooms and on instant messengers.
h/w Homework I personally use this to save typing when talking to friends about homework.
c/w Coursework Similar to above, but for coursework.
