Kumiyama is a small town with a population of 18,000. It is a diverse place as it is 1/3 residential, 1/3 industrial and 1/3 agricultural. By definition it is countryside Japan but when you look around you would think otherwise. Kumiyama is more like an outer suburb of Kyoto city. Location wise it is pretty convenient as it is close to Osaka as well as Kyoto and if you want to go to the real country side it is only a couple of hours away.
