Summary of Actions
1. Jacquie again painted a gloomy picture of the budget with an update on lay-offs and other cuts. September 29 is the day we can expect word on the final cuts. October will find us coming together to figure what we’ll need to move forward.
2. Rich reviewed API results. We did not make our targets. We continue on in program improvement. The biggest drop in API was seen in our socio-economically diverse students, though other traditionally strong groups did not make their targets either. We also did not meet our AYP, and the crux of the issue seemed to be the use of CD-ROM during the test, which are required for certain students by special-ed law. The 23 students’ tests who got accommodations were disqualified, under NCLB law, because of their use of modifications. Between a rock and a hard place SMHS remains. Had they not used the CD-ROMs, we would be out of program improvement, yet they had to use them according to special ed. law. Consequences for not meeting targets remain to be seen.
3. Behrooz and Jacquie presented a continuation of their work on the School WASC Action Teams (SWATs). SLT members will spearhead the groups to get things started on the Staff Development Day. The September 14 faculty meeting will be devoted to information on SWAT
The following are the SWATs with some notes on their more specific duties
