STREAMLINE THE REUNION 22 YEARS ON

Streamline started out, like most bands do, in the bedroom of somebody's house,

that was until the oldies started to complain about the noise, and the electricity bills,

so we looked around for a rehearsal room, and ended up at the Holy Family church,

Lord lane, Failsworth.

Our first gigs, were in local pubs, playing for £25.00 a night, at least it was beer money,

and we were doing something we all enjoyed.

Slowly our name got around, and soon we were playing regular gigs at The White Hart

Droylsden, The Commercial, Stalybridge, and The Lancashire Vaults, Oldham.

Easter time of 1980 saw a big opportunity for the band, we had been in touch with an

American agent, who invited us over to San Francisco.

Our first week there was a bit of a let down, as the agent had flu, and couldn't arrange

any gigs for us, but we did manage to hustle a few short spots, whilst the band at

The Farmhouse (the local pub) took a break, the reaction of the crowd was amazing,

An English band playing in their local, they could hardly believe it,

almost everybody took to the dance floor, much to the annoyance of the resident band,

and to rub salt in it even further, we were using there instruments.

Week 2, brought publicity photo's at Golden Gate bridge, many trips to the agent's house, and a gig

in Santa Cruz, supporting a band called Uncle Rainbow

That gig was one of the best we had ever played, the crowd were amazing,

the atmosphere electric, and the write up in the music press, brought an offer

of 3 months work in Brownsville, Texas, right on the Mexican border.

Unfortunately, some of us had commitments at home, so we didn't take up the offer,

but there's always that big question hanging over us "What if".

Another one of our big achievements of 1980, was coming third in a battle of the bands,

run by Piccadilly Radio, Manchester.

The venue was Romeo and Juliet's, Oldham. bands from all over the north west

competed in heats, spread over a number of months,

the finals started as a disaster for us, we had blow all the electrics

to the amps, just as we went on stage, as the others desperately tried to

get themselves some power, I played the drum solo of my life, which seemed

to go on for ever.

Finally, the lights dimmed, our intro tape started, "On the first day, God

created the Earth, on the second day................"

and so it went on, until the eighth day when God created "Streamline"

Cue explosion, cue dry ice, cue lights, and away we went,

playing as if it was the last gig we were ever going to do.

The night was magic, but the best band won in the end,

a group called "Tight Fit" from Huddersfield, who were very professional,

they had been doing the club circuit for a number of years,

and were very tight, musically.
