Religion
HOME
Well there's been a lot said about religion hasn't there?

And perhaps somewhat undeservedly. It was Nietzsche who said that "modern christian civilisation is sick and must be overcome."  More recently, Bishop John Shelby Spong has been reiterating similar sentiments; denouncing the Catholic Church at large for it's policy of "exclusion."

I believe the Catholic Church has a lot to answer for, with its self-righteous, vitriolic doctrines on everything from contraception to homosexuality through to its blanket denial to acknowledge the existence of hypocritical pedophiles and other degenerates from within its own ranks.

The Catholic Church is a sick, festering sore that exerts control over the masses through a rigid adherence to irrelevent and indeed dangerous teachings; take their rejection of "safe sex" for example. How many thousands of unnecessary deaths has this naive stance cost?

Further, they placate the suffering masses in this life with the promise of something better when you're dead. Now isn't that something to look forward to?

Perhaps if they just sold off one or two of their Leonardo Da Vinci paintings they could afford to help some of the less fortunate in a tangible way, but then of course the decor around the Sistene Chapel would suffer and we can't have that.

And I'm not even going to bother examining that other christian fiasco - the pentecostal movement - what with all that "speaking in tongues" crap. Do they honestly expect us to buy that?!  Jeezus Christ! (If you'll pardon the pun).

People, if you need to believe in something, do yourself a favour and explore some of the more rational options. Take Buddhism, for example, one of my personal favourites. Buddhism encourages you to explore your beliefs and perspectives through introspection and a candid examiniation of your place as an individual in this world, and from there draw your own conclusions. Makes sense to me.

Anyway, if you think I've said enough about religion wait to see what I've got to say about
politics!

Whatever you do, along life's rocky road, take time to smell the roses...
