Sorry for
errors towards the end because it got a little confusing.
Everyone (mostly Michael) were making fun of James Marshall and
Tom said that Marshall wouldn't appreciate that if he was here,
then all of a sudden he pops up out of no where. So I don't
know If he was there the whole time or what. Quite strange. (They introduce themselves.) Greg Beeman- "We are in the episode called Red. In which Clark goes bad. Mmmmmm bad Clark. The girls love that don't they, Tom? When you go BAD and NAUGHTY!" Tom Welling- "Clark doesn't go bad, he simply has no, no consequences for his actions." GB- "Ohhhh liar ::cough::So we begin at a high school, in Vancouver, which has kindly let us paint their entire school into our Smallville colors" Michael Rosenbaum- Thats brilliant. Thats very nice of them GB-I actually think they intelligently changed their school colors to match our colors now. TW-Wait a minute, this is the set at [Buller]. (everyone laughing) GB-No, its not, we didnt have a set invented at this time. This is the real high school. MR-Thats actually the high school? And whose the actress there? What's her name again?" GB- "Sarah Downing" MR "Sarah Downing. Kristin, was she nice to work with?" Kristin Kreuk- "She was great, I liked her a lot." MR- "Nice." GB- "She's a bad girl so we dressed her in mesh." MR- "She looks naughty." GB- "We had to say 'bad girl' RIGHT away." MR- "Mmm. There's Pete. Oh when you have lines, I love him. Love Sam Jones. What an awesome guy. A lot of enthusiasm right, Tom?" GB-Kristin, why do you think Lana is always given the job of like tooling around the uh, new students? KK-Uhh, I think cause she is incredibly sweet and shes the girl that would volunteer to do something like that because she cares about people. GB-Ok heres where the Red Kryptonite first effects Clark. MR-Wow. GB-Now Tom, you did a good job with this stuff. Its like a drug. MR- "You just mouthed this guy and he just walks away, which I never liked. Watch. Check this out. He just looks at you and walks away. Id smack the hell out of you kid. Thats wrong I dont believe that. TW-He saw Lana coming up though,he just. MR-Oh. Theres Sam. TW-Whats he saying? MR- Ohh, theres the butt shots. MR-Now where are we here? GB-This is Metropolis, whenever we come her, were in Metropolis. This scene was originally going to be first in the episode. TW-Downtown Vancouver. GB-Its kind of hard to start on the bad guy. MR-Yea. GB-But Smallville is always, everything is red and gold and blue and uh, Metropolis is always these cool colors. This was going to be the first scene, but we turned it into the second scene. MR- Hey, how long was this kid in the hot tub? Just out of curiosity, if Marshall directed it, hed be there for a month. Hed be all shrively and crinkly. (everyone laughing) GB-He was in there a couple hours I think. TW-You know if Marshall was here, I dont think hed appreciate that. MR-Marshall directed Rosetta by the way, hell be on the next commentary track, we wouldnt allow him to be on this one. Who is this guy? GB-This guy? Michael Tomlinson. MR-Alright. GB-Hes our bad guy of the day. MR- Look at that. How bout move. How bout jump out of the thing. Get out! No look whats happening Im going put this stereo on you now. Here it comes, ready? Here comes loud music (makes sounds like hes being electrocuted) You moron. Get out of there. Look and he slowly dies No, I mean cmon. GB-That was a good death. Shut up, now we know that she is him and that the bad guy is after him. (Save Me in the background) MR- I dont get tired of this song, really. I dont. I sing it in my sleep. GB- Kristin, Im pretty sure that youre happy that the 2nd season we put in one of the best shots of you. KK- Which is? GB- Exploding in front of a fireball. KK- Oh right MR- Oh yea that was a difficult shot, from the tornados, right? Is that what you are talking about? KK- No. MR- Oh sorry. I dont know what the hell youre talking about. GB- Youll see. TW-Were going to have to do this all again wont we? MR-No we wont GB- I love this song. MR-Its very dynasty-like isnt it? I like it. TW- Whats John eating? MR- See theres the tornado. GB- Yea that, the tornados awesomeAND THATS IT. THATS MY FAVORITE SHOT! MR- There, oh thats what youre talking about. GB- I love that shot MR- Thats great. GB- So Tom has gone a little bit bad. Tom, O think the whole task here was to sort ofthe idea of Red Kryptonite is you get badder and badder as it goes on. MR- (laughing) Very articulate. GB- Thank you. I think Tom did a great job with this. MR- Yea. BG- cause here, he is just a little tiny bit bad. MR- Exactly. Its all about the arc isnt it? GB- What do you think Tom? TW- I think its all about my hair. MR- You check your hair? At least you have hair buddy. GB- Tom your hair looks GREAT! Its FLUFFY TW- I didnt say it look bad. MR- Beemans touching himself right now. KK laughs TW- Thanks though. GB- It looks good. Thats a good hair day. MR- Look at that, she wrote the number. Why is it always 555 in every movie? I dont get that. GB- You DO get it. MR- I know. GB- If you actually dial 555 you get the operator. MR- But Im going to try it. GB- Kristinwere you jealous? KK- A little GB- Of Jesse? KK laughs TW- Wait a minute, were YOU jealous or Lana? KK- Lana wasI, I wasnt. (GB snoring) MR- Oh cmon dont snore. Look at that chemistry. You guys always have chemistry. GB- Now you guys remember this is the beginning of season 2 so there had been no romance between the two. MR-No romance, no kiss, well.. GB-They had kissed once in Nicodemus. TW- Now what you guys dont understand about that last shot there between Kristin and I, and Sam, was as Kristin walks away, Itheres actually one button on my shirt thats not done up. And Steve Oben... (Everyone laughing) GB- The costume, on-set costumer. MR-Yes. TW- Awesome, awesome, awesome man. MR- Awesome man. TW- He umm (laughs) MR- Now James Marshall wants to through a word in. GB- What happened with you button, Tom, for God sake? MR- Go ahead. Whats with the button? TW- It caused a great deal of controversy. See right there its buttoned. So, you could imagine Steves dismay. GB- So Steve was worried about the content of your buttons? TW- Absolutely. MR- Well he should be. GB- Tom is only ever dressed in blue, red, and sometimes yellow. The superman colors. MR- I did not know that. TW- Even off-set. MR- Well actually he wore black in this episode. GB- Well well get to that. MR-Well get to that. GB-because hes bad Clark. MR- And heres John Schneider and Annette Otoole by the way. Brilliant actors, great to have them on the show. GB- Great people. MR- Great people. Really, its nice to have them on the set. Tom GB- Tom, but Tom was being sassy to his dad in this one. TW- Clark was. MR-Well, you know. GB- Sorry, sorry, Clark was. MR- Its realism. Ya know theres a reality to that. I remember when I yelled at my dad for the first time. TW-So heres John Schneider and Annette 0Toole. MR-Lovely people. Look at that smile, go go go. TW-Good chemistry these two as parents. GB- WAIT A SECOND, ROSENBAUM ITS YOU! MR- I know, I was in this episode. TW- Dude were you working out before this scene? MR- Ahhhh, no those are just, its nice shirt and those are artificial nipples and breast. GB-Alright so TW laughing-What the hell is going on in your office? GB-This is the season Lionel had gone blind, at the end of last season. MR-And the father Ronny Millsap. KK laughs GB-Lionel had gone blind and has come to take over the mansion. MR-Yea this wasnt a very, this wasnt fun, but you know. GB-This was great. MR-Yea no. GB- How awesome is John Glover? MR- John Glover to work with is just, I mean its a treat. The guy has won a couple of Tonys. Ah he just amps it up. Brings it up. Ups the anny. I think Tom said once. TW- Bout you. MR- Oh. TW- I said it bout you man you do. MR- I know man that was really nice. I read that in YM I think. TW- Its absolutely true. MR-I called you, I thanked you. GB- In your scenes everyone is better Rosenbaum. MR- Oh no, I, you know what, Tom makes me better, Kristin makes me better, people make each, we make each other better. Its true though. TW- Well when youre Saturn, when youre working with a Saturn award winner (Everyone laughing) TW- It just really, you know, you realize what is expected of you. MR-You know what? Yea exactly. TW-And you have to really step up. MR- I didnt even know what that was. I thought Id get a car or something for that award. GB- The bad guy closes in. MR- Thats a bad guy. TW- Marshall tipped me off on that one. GB- He looks like a bad guy doesnt he? TW- Dont forget in your scene today, youre working with a Saturn award winner. MR-You guys are genius. Genius Marshall! Thats the first funny thing ever, youve said. TW- Now, this is Lanas business, the Tal-on. GB- Shes and entrepreneurial young lass and she started up the Talon. Her parents met there, Lex bought it for her, and now she makes Lattes. MR-Yea. TW-What did Beeman say? MR-I dont know. GB- Kristin, what were you thinking there? KK- What I missed that I wasnt watching. GB- Well he wants to go dancing, but you want to study and youre looking at him like Tom..? I mean Clark. KK- Clark. Im sorry, I totally missed the moment. GB- Well he asked you out even though you are suppose to study. I think your character is a little confused. KK- Yes shes very confused. Clark doesnt do that. GB-Exactly. TW- Lovebooks? Lovebooks? MR laughs GB-You guys have awesome chemistry. MR-Yea I was just going to say, a lot of the time, youre doing these scenes and they kind of seem redundant to us doing them everyday, but like certain scenes, like this, just seem kind of natural. You guys were loose I thought you know. GB-I like this scene. This is the scene where Clark uses his x-ray vision to see TW-You know when youve really come along as an actor, even the redundant things looked relaxed. MR (laughing)-How bout I smack the hell out of you (everyone laughing) GB-Its true though. MR- You know Im proud of you Beeman no F-bombs today. GB- Thank you very much. You guys, but its true and every one of these, all of us do the same kind of scene over and over and over again and part of the goal and task is to make it fresh all the time. MR-Yeah GB-But the Clark and Lana energy is always there. So is the Clark-Lex energy, but well talk about that in a few minutes. MR- Tom, did you get to pick out the ring? TW- No, they let me try it on, and I had a little bit of... You know actually, it was about 4 months in development, um when I flew to Switzerland to meet with the, the ring makers. KK laughs MR- Im sensing sarcasm. GB- This is where Clark x-rays and finds out that Chloe- MR-Oh yea, why dont you use that more? GB--has a birthmark on her cheek. MR- Yea good work there buddy. GB- Because Clark is not that kind of guy. MR- Well yea I know.
GB- Clark
is not that kind of guy, he has to be under the influence of
red kryptonite to misabuse his powers. GB- If Pete had x-ray vision MR-It be trouble. GB-it be all over him. MR-Yea. TW- To be serious for a- GB- You know what, I love this house. TW- To be serious- GB- I want to talk about this house for a second. TW- Oh. Excuse me. MR- Well dont cut Tom off, hes in the middle of a thought. God darnit. GB- Oh for Gad sakes, go ahead. TW- No thats alright. The moment just passed. MR-Now youre going to ruin the moment Beeman. James Marshall-I think I should [chair] this thing. Chair recognizes Tom Welling. MR-Somebody get Marshall out of here. TW-All I was going to say was I really like this house and I think that GB- (laughing) Thats what I was going to say. MR- Hes being vicious TW-chair recognized Greg Beeman. MR, GB and KK laughing GB- We shoot the Kent farm at a real farm which is on the border of Canada and USA. MR- I love this. Annette goes up to a silk shirt, look. She doesnt even know the wave runner right in front of her. Its like Look at this silk shirt, forget the wave runner. GB- And also, Clark Kent has every superpower in the world, hes bad, so he goes out and buys a videogame. MR- And disco lights. JM laughing GB- But I got to admit, thats a pretty cool TV. Notice how Tom is dressed in green, which we never dress Clark in green. So that symbolizes his badness. TW- Red Kryptonite, green T-shirt. GB- Exactly. And not only that but, I had to search for, theres a really cool skateboard company in Vancouver that had a logo I really liked. And I wanted that logo on the shirt and for some reason I became obsessed with this. And it was a hard problem to cleared in time. Check out that logo. Whats the name of the company? Red Dragon Skates or something like that. JM- No that would be, ummm, yea Red Dragon. GB- Also Clark would never where black leather, unless he was bad. MR- I dont think anybody should wear black leather. Especially Marshall. JM-I dont really like his hair here. GB- Toms hair looks great here. WOAH! MR- WOAH! GB- That was cool. MR- That was cool. Ive always loved that. GB- I really, really wanted to do a shot where he jumped down, where we saw him jump down from the barn but... MR-Didnt have time or money huh? GB-..we didnt have time or money. So Clark, Tom, how was the motorcycle? TW- fast. GB- Look at where we shoot. This is like the most beautiful place in the world. And the people who own it are like the nicest people in the world and this is where they live. Its so gorgeous and I think they think we like so strange because we come over and were like Yea were gonna set off a bomb on the corner of your property this weekend. Theyre like ok MR- Tell us about the bombed that recently happened. The explosion that people heard in the next country. What happened? GB- Ohhh. We exploded a house and there was damage for 3 square miles. MR- Wow. GB- Things happen. TW- They let that happen in Canada though, thats ok. GB- Tom you look pretty cool on that motorcycle. GB- Kristin KK- Yes? GB- What are you thinking here? KK- Umm, Clarks coming in on a motorcycle, thats awfully strange. (laughs) GB- You were just a little bit jealous again, werent you? KK- Yea. GB- The girl is obviously bad. She wears see-through KK- Her navel is showing. GB- Clark is wearing green, things are not right. TW- Wait a minute, Clark you have green on. GB- But your hair looks good. TW- Wheres Steve Wardrobe? Clarks got green on. TW- Sam, how much do we love Sam? GB- We love Sam. MR- Yes. GB- Now, this is a great scene coming up. MR- This is a cool scene. GB- This is a cool scene. Clark has never, he has never defied his dad. Sometimes hes questioned him, and had a couple of arguments, but nothing like this has ever happened. MR- Watch this. TW- I blocked this scene. GB- This is awesome. Tom you did a great job and look at Schneider. Schneider threw himself back into that door as I remember. MR- He is very smart. GB- He does a lot of his own stunts. MR- John Schneider did 463 push ups before this scene. (KK laughs) MR-463. GB- Schneider has and awesome body. And hes wearing blue. MR- And why is that Greg? GB- Im not sure I think he was about, you know, connecting to Clark cause thats not a color he normally wears so with Clark going away hes trying to take that void. If that makes any sense. MR- Nice US flag in the background. GB-How beautiful is this place? Im always happy when we film here. MR-I dont think the cast is though. Its an hour- GB-You guys dont love the [Anderleeny] farm? MR-Isnt it an hour away from hometown? KK-I love the [Anderleeny] farm, but then again- GB-Its fantastic there. KK--Im not there very often. MR-Tom, how do you feel about the [Anderleeny] farm? TW-Id have to agree, its anywhere from 55-67 minutes to the location. GB-Guys, once you get there, especially when we shoot in the summer, its like the most beautiful, serene place. Im always happy there. MR-It is. Its beautiful. Nice people. TW-Yea. GB-Theyre like the nicest people in the world. MR-Great people. GB-They think were insane.
MR-Great
coffee! MR-Why is that? GB-Its the first, there was a kiss in Nicodemus, but this is like the second ever Clark-Lana kiss and this is a good one. TW-Marshalls episode: Nicodemus. GB-But Kristin, what happened in this scene? KK-Hmm? Oh Tom spilt coffee all over me and kept hurting himself. He was a little klutzy. MR-Oh yea that was in the gag reel. They actually have a take of that right? KK-Yea. GB-So it wasnt like as sexy off-screen? KK-It really wasnt. TW (in a sad voice)-Kristin? KK-Im sorry Tom. MR-Hows Toms breath Kristin? Kristin, did Tom have decent breath? The fans want to know! KK-Yes. MR-Was it minty? Was it minty fresh? (KK and GB laughing) GB-Any self-respecting actor would take one of those Listerine strips before a kiss scene, wouldnt they? MR-I eat a bowl of sardines. GB-And your kisses have dropped way off as the seasons progress, I hope you noticedGuys this is a good kiss. MR-It is nice, look at that. Im justexcuse me GB-As professional actors I am impressed. MR-Big screen. GB-I know. Nice close-up. The Smallville close-up is a super close-up. MR-That was a good kiss. JM-I wish Id directed that kiss. GB-"Kristin, what was Lana thinking here?" KK-"I don't know how much she was thinking." GB-"She was just, like her knees were jelly?" KK-"Think so..." GB-"Red Kryptonite. Introduced for the first time ever." MR-"Wow." GB-"In the first darft of this script there was a scene where there was a bulldozer pulling Kryptonite out of the groundand there was commentary about the Red Kryptonite and we sorta made a bigger deal out of it, but we couldn't really fit that into the schedule so we just assumer the fans would go with it and accept the Red Kryptonite." MR-"They're smart fans." MR-"..uncomfortable silence.." TW-"See this is, I would've wished Allison and Sam were here for this, cause then they would be able to-" GB-"Talk about it?" TW-"They would've been fun for this." MR-"Yeah." GB-"The torch." TW-"She's engaged." GB-"This is where the exposition comes out." TW-"See I don't even know what this scene is about so..." GB-"This scene is about why is Clark acting weird? And where Chloe brings into the picture that Red Kryptonite is the source and Sam starts to figure it out." TW-"Oh and she's saying that the rings are fake." GB-"That the rings are fake, it was suppose to be garnets, instead it's cheap, worthless meteor rocks. But Sam puts two and two together, goes back to the Kent farm-" MR-"With four." GB-"We film all of the establishing shots at the end of season one." MR-"By the way, Sam's strong. I just wanna through that in, cause there's not enough Sam, we're not talking about Sam enough. But, uh, he was taking a korate class, remember Tom? And he use to come over after his class and SHOW me what he had learner." TW-"And the Jujutsu." MR-"JUJUTSU! Bust my ass every day. And I'm like 'What are you doing?" 'Let me just show you this. Let me just...', put me in these headlocks. And I'm like 'Get off me!'" TW-"'If you every wanna dislocate someone's shoulder just do this-" MR-"Yeah he would just thorugh these massive moves on us." TW-"-here give me your arm...No actually Sam, I love working with Sma. He, his energy, coming into a room and doing his scene, he really works hard. He's like a powerhouse. He's like an explosion waiting to happen." GB-"Now Clark and Lex." Mr-"Yeah we always have a good time right Tommy?" TW-"Well you know, when you working with a Saturn Award winner..." MR-"Hey you were nominated for some award." GB-"Now also Lex notices Clark odd wardrobe." MR makes weird noise KK laughs TR-No, it always is a, I think the Clark and Lex relationship, I think is actually very powerful because it is, well written first of all and I think Michael, you do and extraordinary good job of, with this character, keeping him right on that line of-" MR-"I like this you say, 'I wanna rock your (he meant 'her') world'. We like a little, through a little...We were like laughing on that." GB-"Wait, this, this scene has, to me, one of the most world famous Clark-Lex line which is..." MR-"What's that?" GB-"It's commign right up. He says 'Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, I like the sound of that." MR-"Oh that's later." GB-"That's later?" MR-Yeah I think thats later. But yeah, you know there is that, always play around I think now, 3rd season, were always kind of, all of us are kind of playing more you know? So its a lot more fun. GB-What is going on with Clark and Lex? MR-I dont know, a lot of the fansIve seen some of those things, explain that. TW (in a gay voice)-Whats their secret? MR-Was is the Clex thing? Is that whats happening? Ive heard that, Im telling you, Al told me that. GB-Theres an energy between Clark and Lex and maybe that uh- MR-Like big brother, little brother, is that what youre talking about? TW-The homoerotic undertones of their relationship are just- GB-Im talking about maybe the fact that Clark rejected Lex is what made Lex go evil in the long run. MR-I dont know. GB-We dont know. MR-We dont know that. TW to KK-Thats you isnt it? That wasnt you? (laughs) I thought that was you. GB-This is a local bar, in Vancouver. And look at this, now Clark has gone really bad. TW-This was a fun scene. This is a fun scene to do cause normally Clark has to be, you know, reserved and watch out for everybody and this one, youll see at the end, it turns into a stunt sequence. Clark could just really have fun with his abilities and just throw people around. And I think uh, added the Lana tension here with this other girl, I think it was a really cool scene. It was fun to do, it was fun to act. GB-Cause now at this point the Red Kryptonite has gotten enough of a hold on you that youre pretty much fully bad now. TW-You know, I dont prefer the word bad actually. I prefer, like seriously, cause hes not bad, hes not out to hurt anyone hes not um, hes not trying to hurt anyone. Hes just doing what he feels he wants to do and not worried about the consequences. GB-I love this moment where each girl has one of this arms and theyre pulling him in two different directions. TW-We spent a lot of time on this scene, the blocking of it even to really work out these moments. MR-Did you guys kiss? Oh. GB-Almost. TW-The bartender? No I didnt kiss the bartender. MR-Oh thank God. Matt Dillon. GB-Thats that bad deputy whos chillen around. MR-A lot of time, uh, in fact every time youre filming a scene like this, theres actually no music, no ones talking. So sometimes the director will say Talk really loud like theres music. Then you talk really loud like an idiot and then theres very little music. GB-Its important to do that. Well the louder you talk, the more music we can put in.
GB-I love this scene. We had just introduced heat vision the previous episode. This was like the next time it got used. MR-That was cool. GB-Thats the moment. We did a lot of takes of that didnt we, Tom? And uh- TW-Yes we did. GB-And it was like more, more, more and when Tom got to that, I think thats the best moment in the episode, willing to find dark Clark. MR-Very Gary [Oldman]. TW-yeah we talked about that moment a lot actually, Beeman. I remember talking to you about that. GB-This is again, I think, a very strong scene. TW-This scene got dangerous towards the end as I pulled away even. With John ended up behind the car. MR-Didnt you like swerve away and you went a little out of control? TW-They said ok we just want you to pull away here at the end, you know, with the camera movie, we wont be able to tell how fast youre going. And I simply dropped the clutch and took off and it shot rocks all over him. GB-You look good in the sun glasses Clark. TW-They stayed right in there though. GB-Everyone is brave on this show, Kristin is brave, Schneider and Annette are brave, everyone will do their own stunts and be there for like pretty challenging things. GB-Tom you did a great job of modulating this performance. Its really like every scene is progressively more than the scene that was before it. TW-Thanks. We spent a lot of time talking about the build in the character. And how like you said earlier, that the Kryptonite was, the Red Kryptonite was like a drug and it slowly becomes more and more power and I think it was important to show that. TW-That noise you hear is Marshall going for the food. GB laughs MR-Always. Were use to that noise. GB-Schneider plays this character so well, hes uh, its something else that I love about our show is that the parents are strong and smart and uh, generally respected by the kid like this.thats the moment youre talking abut Tom? TW-Yeah.
TW-Lex playing Solitaire on his computer again. MR-This is a fun scene. GB-And Tom finally gets to wear Gucci. MR-Good for him. GB-He looks good in it. You get to wear Versachi <sp> all the time and Tom never gets to, he gets to wear plaid. MR-I wanna wear red shirts and plaid. MR laughs-Jesse! GB-You never know what Lex is thinking. MR-Do you not? GB-No. Thats the good thing. MR-Thanks thats cool.
TW-Kristin can you imagine if its just you and I sitting here? KK-No. TW-We probably wouldve left already. Marshalls keeping us here. MR-Where is Marshall, is he not speaking? TW-Oh hes right here, rubbing up against the microphone. GB-James Marshall had nothing to do with this episode. TW-I think, I think we should include Marshall in this commentary to tell you the truth.
