I needed a bit of assistance with this one as both my son and my brother (Noah) started earlier then the recommended age which is 4 months. We had given them both plain apple babyfood and kept away from the more solid food. Here are some ideas on solids.
* It pays to try your best to wait until your baby reaches the recommended age. For us, two bottles at one time wasn't enough so we had to introduce solids.
* There is a common sign which can tell you if your baby is ready for solids. If they open their mouth to recieve food they are ready. BUT if they poke out their tounge or not open their mouth they are NOT ready.
* When they watch you eat can also be another sign. When they look at you like they want some. Only a mother would know that look.
* Start small and work your way up. If under the recommended age don't hurry to introduce all the different types of solids. We stuck to apple until they reached the recommended age, then started to introduce other solids.
* If after the first feeding session they play up and you have tried everything to calm them down, it's obvious that you need to stop using solids because that to me is a sign they aren't ready.
