Craft Dinner and Meeting
Annik - Wednesday, July 10, 2002, 7:01 PM
--------------------------------------------------------
Smith Dining Hall
As you step into this large room, rows upon rows of tables first greet
you. The scars and spots in the wood and the benches distinguish them as apprentice
benches, victims to younsters' curiosity about their first blades. Farther into
the hall are groups of round tables with chairs, journeymen tables it would
seem and finally across the top of the room sits one long table. The master's
table is on a slightly raised dais, no doubt to allow the masters to keep a
better eye on the apprentices during the meal. A swinging door near the
apprentice tables gives a glimpse into the bustling kitchen.
A large metal door to the west leads out to the main meadow.

Ofira comes out from the kitchen, leaving the doors swinging.
Ofira has arrived.
Ofira smiles, "Good evening...Senior Apprentice. I'm Craftmaster
Ofira. Of the baker craft. I'm afraid that I'm here to interfere and get in the
way and all sorts of masterly things."
Desh wipes his fingers off on his apron, trotting toward the apprentice
tables and pulling out a chair. He nods and says some quiet greetings to a few
of the other apprentices.
Desh sits down at the apprentice tables.
Ofira sits down at the master's table.
Niobe now smiles fully, nodding her head at the woman. "Well met,
Ofira. I'll be looking forward to you interference - it /can/ get boring around
here sometimes." The Apprentice winks conspiratorily at Loren and the
Baker, and then waves as she heads over to the Sr. Journeyman's table.
Carissa sits down at the journeyman tables.
Annik walks in with a large smile. "Evening, everyone!" She
glances around and notices the Baker. "Oh, Craftmaster, it's a pleasure to
have you with us tonight," she says as she heads towards her seat.
Loren gently leads Ofira to the master's table, seating her next to
Annik, in his own chair, then takes the next chair, startling another master
who was aiming for the same one. Loren grins and shrugs to the old fellow,
before settling.
Loren stands and leaves the apprentice tables.
You sit down at the master's table.
Loren sits down at the master's table.
Loren joins you.
Ofira smiles, "Craftmaster Annik! A pleasure, as always. I'll just
sit here quietly. I wouldn't want to take advantage of Loren's kindness. Just
pretend I'm not here."
Desh tilts his head up curiously as another apprentice tells him
something. He observes Ofira for a few moments, then nods to the young man he
was speaking with.
The cooks burst from the kitchens, carrying the normal variety of drinks
and baskets of crunchy breadsticks. These are quickly passed out to each of the
tables, and the servers return to the kitchen.
Carissa moves in an almost absent-minded way at the farthest end of the
Journeyman's table, where the table hasn't filled yet.
Loren takes a few bread sticks and places them on his plate, then sips
more of his mulled cider. He looks about then surrepticiously dips one bread
stick in the cider, then happily munches it.
Annik shakes her head at Ofira as she pours herself some klah.
"Nonsense. You're our guest, and a Craftmaster, so you can feel free to
enjoy yourself."
Desh nods to Carissa, lips quirking up slightly at the corners, if she
happens to look his way. He takes a basket of breadsticks, takes one, and then
passes it along down the table.
It might be somewhat odd, but Niobe has more friends at the regulat Apperntice
table than at the Seniors - where she is seated. The young woman nods and
smiles at her peers, but she constantly looks over to grin at Desh and a few
others she's befriended. Also, her usual sketchbook and pencil are missing this
evening.
Ofira's eyebrows go up as she sips her ale once more.
"Really?" There's something faintly ominous about this, but for now,
she just sits back comfortably.
Annik pauses to peer at the Baker for a moment, a faint smile on her
face, but she shrugs. "Sure. You're no lowly apprentice," here she
takes a moment to wink towards the apprentice tables, "so why not."
Carissa selects a breadstick from the basket shoved to the end of the
table she's mentally sectioned off.
Ofira raises her mug of ale towards Annik, "Craftmaster, thank you
for making me so welcome," she says formally, though her smile is much
warmer.
Desh nods to Niobe, murmuring, "Good evening."
Loren dunks once again, then finishes off the bread stick. "I
wonder if the cooks are in a tizzy? I know they sure looked shocked when Master
Ofira and I walked through, arm in arm." he grins.
Wen comes in from the main meadow.
Wen has arrived.
Ofira helps herself to a breadstick, breaking it in half carefully and
studying it. "Tizzy? I hardly think so...Bakers are always calm and in
control..." she murmurs, in stark contrast to fact.
The cooks return with the first course: trays full of an assortment of
fruit slices. There are berries of all sorts, chunks of melon, redfruit,
peaches, pears, and even some kiwi.
Wen walks slowly in, her stiff gait an indication of her advancing
years. She peers at the apprentices as she walks past their tables, then steps
up to the masters raised platform, taking her customary seat, the one nearwest
the apprentices.
Wen sits down at the master's table.
Wen joins you.
Niobe sees Desh looking at her, and wiggles her fingers in a subdued
'hello' gesture. Her grin more than makes up for the intervening distance,
though.
Ofira taps one of the cooks on the shoulder, murmuring something about
the breadstick that makes the woman throw her apron up over her head and flee
the room.
Desh chews cheerfully enough on a breadstick, devouring it in typical
Smithishly voracious fashion. He takes some redfruit slices and berries, then
passes the plate along, pausing to watch the poor cook flee the room. "Oh,
dear."
Annik returns Ofira's smile. "You're always welcome, of course.
Besides, your wonderfully trained Bakers are the ones who make us our delicious
dinners." Her eyes widen as the fruit is brought in. "Ooh, I wonder
how they managed all that."
Niobe grins broadly as she sees the fresh fruit coming, and takes a vast
helping of the intoxicating stuff - settling into it almost immediately. A
stifled giggle as the cook ducks beneath apron.
Ofira says cordially to Annik, "Only with the help of your ovens
and the wonderful kitchen gadgets you keep designing for us. Some of them have
been truly amazing!" she says quite sincerely.
Annik serves herself a little bit of everything, eyeing the selection
happily. "It's the least we can do," she replies and pops some
raspberries into her mouth.
Loren beams and grins past Ofira to Annik. 'See?' he seems to be
thinking. He then picks out chinks of pear and adds some red berries to his
plate.
Ofira helps herself to some fruit. "This is so fresh," she
admires, "At this time of the turn too. Apparently you have some excellent
connections. And nicely arranged too."
Wen eyes the fruit with aroused interest, carefully spooning melon and
refruit pieces onto her plate. She uses a well made fork to spear one slice and
munches it, momentarily smiling. She catches herself and resumes her stern
perusal of the busily eating apprentices.
Desh munches on bits of fruit, lips slightly quirked. Another apprentice
makes some remark, turning a piece of melon; several around her shake their
heads and grin. Quite possibly, they're marvelling as well.
Annik nods at Ofira. "I didn't even know we could get fruit like
this in winter, but I guess our Headwoman found a way to work it out. It is
nice to have something fresh now and then, after all the preserves and dried
stuff we usually have."
Loren murmers, "I suppose a rider was involved, I recall seeing a
blue in the meadow about noontime." he manages around his chewing on a
pear chunk.
Managing to overhear Annik, Niobe nods in unconscious enthusiasm, most
of her fruit having disappeared into her maw.
Ofira nods, "A good headwoman can achieve a lot, I've noticed. So,
if now isn't an inappropriate time, I had a few questions that I'd wanted to
ask...it's why I stopped by originally. That and to say hello."
After a few moments, the cooks and kitchen staff are back again. They
carefully carry in small wherry pies, fresh out of the ovens, and set one in
front of each person.
Annik raises an eyebrow and looks over at Ofira as she swallows a
mouthful of fruit. "Oh?"
Ofira nods as she takes a serving of the wherry pie onto her plate,
"Jorenan was reading a scroll recently...it mentioned something about a
type of glass that can withstand the heat of an oven. Is that pure fantasy, or
is it something that might be developed in the forseeable future?" I'm
intrigued by the idea, I don't mind telling you."
One of the servers flutters her eyelashes too much at one of the
apprentices; she neglects to watch what she's doing sufficiently, and one young
apprentice with orange hair gets a lapful of hot wherry pie. He yelps, causing
numerous heads to turn. Desh's fork pauses halfway to his mouth as he looks
over.
Wen almost grins as she watches the apprentices joyful surprised faces.
She doesn't let it last though, and makes room for the wherry pie in front of
her. She uses her belt knife to carefully slice the pie into quarter, then lays
the blade on the plate edge while she uses her fork to good effect.
Niobe grunts slightly as she sits back - her wherry pie being presented
before the cook moves to serve the next person. Ahh... she /likes/ these.
Utensils are deftly jabbed into the stuffed crust, carefully tossing and
turning meat and vegetables inside so as to cool them off enough to eat without
danger. A sharp look at the shrieking apprentice with the hot pie in his lap
draws a part giggle part moan of sympathy from the woman.
Annik opens her mouth to answer, but is interruped by the apprentice's
yelp. She glaces over with a stern look, then returns her attention to Ofira.
"Ah, yes. I'm sure we could definitely manufacture something of that sort.
We have been experimenting a bit with increasing strength, and things like
that." She picks up her fork and pokes it into her pie.
Wen's head jerks up and she stands, peering at the apprentice. "Are
you injured, Threil?" she calls.
The young apprentice scoops pie off his lap, batting away the hands of
the embarassed server. "No, thanks... uh!" His face red, the
apprentice looks over at Wen and shakes his head hurredly. "No,
ma'am!"
Ofira smiles faintly at the apprentice's plight, her attention mostly on
Annik. "That is something that obviously we would have a great interest
in. If it isn't too much trouble, I'd love to be kept up to date on your
research. And of course we'd be happy to test any sort of vessel that you
make."
Wen relaxes and settles back into her chair. "Well, if it's
bothering you, go put snow on it, like you would a forge cinder burn. The
longer you keep it on, the faster the healing.
Annik takes a few bites of her pie and nods to Ofira. "Yes, of
course. I'll start some journeymen on making prototypes and send them over as soon
as they're ready."
Niobe has waved enough cool air onto her pie to take a decent forkful.
Mmmm...
Ofira smiles, "Wonderful! Some of the other masters will be very
excited about that." She takes a bite of her pie, chewing thoughtfully.
She swallows and remarks, pleased, "That's the work of Journeyman Agleith,
if I've ever tasted it. Perhaps...if you'd excuse me briefly, I'd like to go
say hello to her."
Threil's head bobs, and once the pie is sufficiently cleaned up, he
trots toward the exit to do just that. Some of the junior apprentices giggle
helplessly as he passes. Desh eats in silence, averting his eyes from the
highly embarassed serving girl, who is hastily finishing her duties.
Loren shoves his chair back, then stands, helping Master Ofira with her
chair. "Well, it's very good. I hope you'll agree."
Annik nods in between bites of her own pie. "Sure, and do thank her
for us, for making a wonderful dinner."
Ofira nods, "It certainly is very good," she says to Loren,
nodding her gratitude for his courtesy. "I'll return shortly."
Ofira pushes through the swinging doors leading into the kitchens.
Ofira has left.
Loren watches the baker leave then resumes his seat. He mops up some of
the pie's gravy with a chunk of bread, savoring each bite. "I hope we have
this again, soon." he murmers to Annik, while glancing at certain
apprentices.
Annik nods at Loren as she scrapes up the last pieces of her pie.
"It is very good. Especially during a cold season like this."
As people begin to finish off their pies, the cooks emerge from the
kitchens with the final course. Tonight, dessert consists of a warm bread
pudding. A few large dishes of it are placed on each table.
"This is /excellent!" Niobe comments to one of her tablemates,
having finished half the pie already.
Desh finishes up his pie, glancing over at the bits abandoned by the
unfortunate Threil speculatively for a moment. No, he won't eat those.
Loren sips from his mug, nodding in agreement with Annik. He silently
waits for her to get her serving of pudding.
Annik pushes away her empty pie dish and heaps a few large spoonfuls of
dessert onto a plate before passing it on.
Loren takes the large bowl and spoons out a couple of dollops for
himself, then passes the bowl. He sprinkles some pepper on his, then carefully
tastes the results. He promptly adds more pepper. "Now bread pudding
should have a little bite to it." he comments.
When presented with the dessert, Niobe makes a small face, and continues
to consume the rest of her wherry pie. After she's done, her spoontip carefully
lifts /only/ the pudding to her lips, avoiding the bread part of it as much as
possible.
Annik raises her eyebrows at Loren as she takes a mouthful of her bread
pudding. "A bite? It seems fine to me the way it is, but then I've never
thought bread pudding should be peppery."
Desh digs in vigorously, being served and demolishing a large portion of
pudding. As enthusiastic as he is, young Garris nearly inhales his food, and
alas, Desh is beaten in the race.
Loren polishes off his serving and slides the empty plate away. He uses
the finger bowl and napkin to clean his fingers, watching some of the
journeymen, then glancing to the far end of the master's table.
Niobe reaches for her large mug of klah, and adds some sweetener,
drinking heartily from the piping warm contents. Much better than bread
pudding, in her estimation.
Annik swallows the last of her dessert and washes it down with klah. A
satisfied sigh escapes as she sits back in her chair and watches the dirty
dishes being taken back to the kitchens.
Desh has a long pull on his mug of cider, half-listening to a
conversation about forge temperatures going on around him.
Wen pushes her empty plate away, then looks to Annik, Carissa and Loren,
eyebrow raised.
After glancing around to see that nearly everyone has finished eating,
Annik looks over to Wen and nods.
Movement at the head table; Desh looks over attentively as Wen rises,
lowering his mug.
Wen gets to her feet slowly and puts a hand in her pocket. She waits for
the apprentices to fall silent before announcing, "There are some changes
in seating order. Senior Apprentice Niobe, would you kindly come here? I have a
small task for you." she smiles.
Niobe stands quickly but smoothly, golden-brown eyes glinting as she
steps over to Wen - containing her grin for once.
Carissa smiles slightly, coming back to life. Her eyes follow Niobe up
to the Master's table.
Wen leans down and hands something to the apprentice, and murmers a word
to her. She straightens and watches.
Annik silently watches the proceedings, her mouth neutral, but her eyes
sparkling.
Desh watches with curiosity, head cocked.
Niobe takes the small handful from MasterWen, and casually strolls over
to the main Apprentice table. The young woman lets now bland eyes flit back and
forth from face to face, as she circles the long table. Ooh, she's being extra
mean!
Wen clears her throat, ominously, and jerks her head towrds Niobe.. but
her face doesn't have her usual sterness tonight.
Several apprentices sit up a little straighter, peering hopefully at
Niobe. Desh reaches up to scratch his cheek, a pensive - well, more pensive
than usual - look crossing his face.
Niobe keps this up only long enough to rile the Apprentices, but not the
Masters. After Wen clears her throat, the woman sighs softly and speeds up a
little - to bump her hip slighly against a young man's back. "Apprentice
Desh, would you be so kind to join us at the Senior Apprentice's table?"
Now her eyes are smiling, along with her entire face.
Niobe blinks, and quickly stuffs the knot into Desh's hand, reddening
slightly.
Annik lets her smile appear as the knot is handed to Desh.
"Congrats!" she calls.
Desh blinks, and his lips quirk up at the corners - nearly an actual
smile at that. "I - I - thank you, Niobe," he says, rising from his
seat, clutching the knot. He turns toward the head table, flushing a little as
he bows his head to them, too. "Thank you."
"Congrats, Desh!" Niobe squees happily as the young man rises,
thumping him heartily on his back. "Follow me!" and she heads back to
the Sr. Appy table.
Carissa claps and grins, "Yeah Desh!"
Many apprentices stomp their feet and clap, shouting 'Walk, Desh, Walk'
over and over again. And not a few Journeymen join in too.
Desh laughs a little, clearly surprised, and somehow manages to push his
chair at the apprentice table in quickly before trotting after Niobe.
Niobe waits until Desh seats himself at an open seat, and just keeps on
grinning like an idiot.
Loren claps too, then when things settle, he looks to Annik.
Annik looks over at Wen again, to see if she has any other business.
Desh stands and leaves the apprentice tables.
Desh settles with a little awkwardness into a seat at the senior
apprentice's table, fussing with his knots to switch them.
Niobe can't help but snickering, and she rests a hand on Desh's other
shoulder before turning to Wen - nodding thoughtfully - and then retreating to
her own seat.
Wen smiles her thanks to Niobe then announces in a clear voice, one
pitched to carry well over pounding hammers and rasping saws. "Senior
Apprentice Desh, you have comported yourself well, these last few turns. I
expect you'll see fit to continue. Come and talk with me tomorrow before
breakfast. There are some details of your plans we need to discuss." She
nods to Annik as if to say 'that is all' and takes her seat once again.
Desh nods immediately, replying, "Yes, Apprenticemaster!" He
fixes his new knot to his shoulder, surprise giving away to curiosity.
Niobe turns her head away from the Master's table, and silently mouths
to Desh PLANS?
Desh shakes his head a little to Niobe, his expression growing more
thoughtful.
Annik acknowledges Wen's nod and stands. "Evening, again, everyone.
It being winter now, production has slowed considerably and will continue to do
so. And what does that mean? More time to have fun in the snow, of course! As
usual, we'll be hauling out the winter equipment. Now, we still have a lot of
work to do, so we can come out ahead when spring rolls around, but do take some
time to enjoy yourself outside, because you know this is about the only chance
you'll get every turn." She glances at her Craftseconds. "Anything to
add, Loren? Carissa?"
Loren shakes his head, "Just that icing down door handles and steps
is still forbidden. Anyone caught doing so will be kept /very/ busy the rest of
the winter."
Niobe mumbles softly to the apprentice next to her right, "That's
not funny at all! Someone could get killed."
Carissa smirks, "Just this: this year, apprentices.. Wait til the
ice has frozen over until you try to skate? I didn't appreciate having to get
someone to fish Sr. Apprentice Vorin from the pond last winter." Her eyes
twinkle wickedly as the boy sinks down in his seat.
Annik chuckles at Loren and Carissa. "Well said."
Annik sets the OOC lamp ablaze.
Desh dances. Wooble!
Carissa throws bags of oroe's!
Annik brings out her mountain of pillows and tosses a few around.
Wen pops off her shoes and sighs. "Where's the beefcake?"
Carissa points to Loren and winks at Wen, "Does he work?"
Desh says "I'm hurt."
Wen eyes the younger fellow and sniffs. "Seldom, is what I observe.
Loren @thwaps Wen.
Annik smiles. Alrighty. How is everyone?
Carissa laughs!
Niobe needs to be elseMU* right now. I'm fine, though. :)
Wen says "I've been paging Desh about 'posting' to other areas.
Perhaps I should continue it out loud?"
Desh says "I'd be curious to hear what everyone else thinks, too,
yeah."
Annik ohs? Go ahead. I was just going to say something about that, but
you first.
Niobe will be a passive listener. :)
Wen says "I've found posting a smith to seldom work out. ... Most
become idle and then are gone. Carissa is our major exception! :)"
Carissa tries very hard not to preen, "I figured you'd get bored
without me eventually ;)"
Annik nods.
Niobe says "I'd still be active. I promise. :)"
Carissa threatens to hunt people down ;)
Wen says "The main problem seems to be that people in other areas
don't know what/how to RP with a smith. They know relatively little about us,
what a smith can and can't do, so they tend to avoid RPing.. plus many seem to
also regard posted smiths as 'temporary' and don't want to commit a lot of RP
time and character development. What I've found works best to to go to the area
on the pretext of helping with some sort of smith project, letting everyone
know right away why you are there, and that you are probably temporary.. and if
you find that you like it there, talk to the leaders about posting."
Desh nodnods.
Annik nods. Mmm hmm. Sounds fine to me.
Carissa nods. "It tends to work best if it is just temporary..
after a few months, people know you, you get boring.. ;)"
Wen says "The 'project' has a /lot/ of advantages, It set the stage
for your RP, provides material to use in RP and in general provides some
structure to your time there. If you lie it there and want to stay, youcan also
work out a way to remain, like being handfasted to a resident there or to take
on a special responsibility, like sprayer repair and maintenance at a weyr, or
farrier work at a hold, etc."
Desh says "Do you have to get permission to start hanging about
with a 'project'?"
Wen says "And remember, you can always come back to the hall if you
see someone here, on the pretext of getting something the project needs, or to
carry reports and info back to the hall. ... Please talk your project over with
one of us leaders, so we can advise on problems, changes and smooth the way
with the areas involved."
You say "Well, jmen are still going to be 'posted', if they want
to. They don't need to just find a reason to stay. They can if they want to
remain temporary."
You say "Here's what I've been thinking about though: rotating
postings. I don't want anyone to stay at a posting long enough for it to get
boring and cause the character to idle out."
Desh says "That's an interesting idea."
You say "We could either rotate one whole group, or partner people
up to cut back on the constant admin changes."
Niobe says "What id someone has a mate at a posting, or really
LIKES it there?"
Wen nodnods. "Don't be afraid of moving on. Change can be the best
thing for RP. Riders don't like to transfer much, because they have a /lot/
invested in an area and the area has a lot invested in them. Crafters are about
the only characters on here who can move from one area to another without
stigma.
Wen says "Well, that a pretty good sign you like it there and
/should/ stay. :)"
You say "Well, it would depend on how the rotations go. Either way,
I really do want some time required for Jmen to come back to hall. They get out
of touch being away all the time."
Desh nodnods.
You say "We could do both: permanent and rotating posts, but people
will have to let us know what they want. If they're getting bored, they need to
say something and not just let themselves idle out."
Carissa sobs, "Alas, alack, my time is up.."
You say "We could set up something like designate seasons for
people to spend time at the hall. Maybe every spring we could have the jmen
come back and visit, and they'd return to their postings in the summer."
Annik waves at Carissa. Make sure to read the log. :)
Carissa will. *hugs all* Night, guys.
Carissa goes home.
Carissa has left.
Wen nods. "Beware of handfasting... there's a lot of problems that
can come up. I've had alts handfasted and then had the player go idle on me,
because of changes in RL situations.
Niobe nods. Beware like the plague.
Annik smiles. Well, anyone who handfasts a jman crafter should beware
that they're liable to be moved around.
Wen says "If handfasting would be a good reason to stay, look at
using an NPC mate."
Desh nodnods. This is all sounding good. Handfasting? Yeep. Always be
careful of that junk.
You say "So? Feedback, please. What sounds best?"
Desh says "An optional rotating program would be interesting, with
the journeymen coming back in spring and leaving in summer."
You say "Niobe, Desh, you're both nearing Jman - you'll be the ones
to try these ideas out if you choose to be posted."
Loren says "Why buy the cow when milk's so cheap? :)"
Niobe nods at Annik
Desh nods.
You say "Also, from now on, I'm recalling all idle Jmen (or posted
SrApps) to the hall. It doesn't do anyone any good to have idle crafters
representing us."
Niobe nod-nods!
Desh says "Makes sense."
You say "And I don't just mean idle as in not logging in. I mean,
logging in but not doing anything. If the people at your posting don't know you
exist, then you're probably not doing much good there. :)"
Wen says "Ok.. it looks like we could easily get a 'project' going
at Benden's Baker Training Center."
Desh nodnods. Ofira did sound happy about that sort of thing.
Annik nods. A lot of crafters are trying to get cross-crafting things
going on.
You say "So, I'll talk to the current Jmen and see what they
think."
Wen says "Yup. It's always worked in the past. Most crafters love
to RP with other crafters. We tend to know more about how each other
works."
You say "Next: RP. How're we doing as far as spontaneous RP? Is it
happening ever?"
Desh says "Arkady and I had a small scene a few days ago.
Otherwise? Not so much."
Loren sighs. "Sorry, I'm not on more. When school starts, I should
have a lot more time.
Annik growls at her connection.
You say "Did I miss much?"
Desh erks. What did you see last?
You say "Loren sighs. "Sorry, I'm not on more. When school
starts, I should have a lot more time."
Desh says "I've been staying in my rooms more. Sort of a lack of
things to talk about ICly coupled with some burnout."
Annik nods. Niobe? What about you?
Simple lack of people when I check in - and a lack of chewy RP. ;)
Niobe says "That was me."
You say "Anything that we admins can do to make things more
interesting for you on a 'daily' basis?"
Niobe says "Daily would be tough, I think. Maybe bi-weekly?"
Annik means daily in the sense of regular non-planned RP. Something to
make the hall more interesting at any given time.
Desh says "I wonder if we could have a certain day and time or
something to get together for a scene. Not necessarily anything, but just 'we
all hang around in the lounge' or something."
You say "Well, that was part of the point for getting a list of
online times. I can try to set something up, or you even could if you
wanted."
Loren nods. "Regular times can help. When I've had an AWLM alt,
having a set time and place for RP was always a big plus.
Niobe noddles. A meting time for RP would be nice.
Loren says "Of course, weyrlings are ICly restricted to a given
area too, at least at first."
You say "If anyone wants to organize that kind of thing, you are
more than welcome to. It might even be nice for apps to figure that out amongst
themselves, so you can all get to know each other better. :)"
Desh hmmns, nods.
Wen eeps. "It's getting late and my eyes are getting gritty.
Niobe wonders who she is? ;)
Wen bats her gritty eyes. :)
You say "This leads me to my next topic: we need more apps. We have
a had a lovely bunch of apprentices, but you're all moving up so well that our
Jr App ranks are thinning out."
You say "So, any 'recuiting' that you could do would be nice.
:)"
Desh says "Maybe another event? That's what nabbed me."
Wen nodnods. "'Projects' can be good for that too.
You say "You don't have to be pushy about it or anything, but if
know someone who's interested, or someone who you think would enjoy it here
(newbie or experienced player), please do nudge them to get in contact with
us."
Annik has a whole bunch of events up her sleeve, but they need to be
planned out yet.
Desh peeks up Annik's sleeve curiously.
Niobe screechs! PEEPER!
Annik giggles girlishly and bats at Desh.
Desh is a masher, yes. Snrk.
You say "Speaking of events, Taria sent me an idea of hers to do
something with PC kids."
Niobe cringes!
Wen sneaks away. Carry on, dear friends.
Wen heads out the large metal door to the meadow.
Wen has left.
Desh says "Tiny little grubby people!"
Annik patpats Niobe. It's not that bad, really. Basically, she'd like to
maybe do some classes or things aimed at littles, which could be fun if done
creatively.
Desh says "Oooh. Crafts!"
Niobe slinks away and grrrs from under the bed.
You say "It's something new that we've never done before, and I
think it would be interesting."
Loren says "After spending most of my day with kids, RL, I might
not be a hoopy frood RPing more kids."
Desh says "We could make them evil children."
Loren says "Can I splat 'em? :)"
Desh says "Yes!"
Kuroyi comes in from the main meadow.
Kuroyi has arrived.
Desh says "Tragic accident with a machine falling. Splat."
Niobe says "how about precocious, intelligent ones? :)"
Annik smiles. Anyway, I'm going to let Taria plan that if she wants.
Kuroyi guesses we're to the OOC part? Hehe
You say "We're talking about doing classes for littles,
Kuroyi."
Desh says "Thumbs up from the Deshster."
You say "Next thing: character pages. I finally wrote up a bit
about Annik, and if anyone else wants to have something up about their
character, they'd be more than welcome."
You say "There's space on the Smithcraft page if you're like me and
too lazy to get your own. :)"
Desh shines his website.
Kuroyi hs like 15 mb of space but is too html clueless to figure it out
just yet
Niobe says "Why did I just hear "Picture Pages' from Cptn.
Kangaroo??? ;D"
Desh says "Because you are insane, Niobe. Whee, sparkly
lights!"
Desh ducks.
Annik knows there's plenty of people who could help you, if you wanted,
Kuroyi.
Loren nods. "The hardest part is getting content, the rest is
pretty easy.
Desh would help.
You say "I'm not sure about the older versions of Word, but Word
2000 lets you save as a web page. It's quite nifty for html-illiterates or lazy
people."
Loren says "Or get Netscrape.. err, Netscape. It has a webpage
builder."
Desh says "There are a few you can download, too, for free."
Annik smiles. Anyway, just wanted to get that out there. And now, I'd
like to unveil something that's been in the works for awhile now...
You say "Voila! http://www.geocities.com/sm1thcraft/app/classes.html"
Kuroyi says "Ooo."
Loren uses Netscape 3 & 4, Arachnophilia, Pagemill. The first three
are free, the last is out of production. :P
Niobe WOOTS!
Desh oooooohs.
Annik smiles. Hopefully, this will give you some inspiration for how to
RP around your classes.
Niobe screeches with joy! No classes until 9am for me!
Kuroyi sighs happily, "The joys of not being a Jr Appy heh
Loren says "BTW, I personally think we'd have math tools like a
slide rule, since pern smiths are not ignorant of math, just electronics. :)
The slide rule is most likely circular with multiple disks, but some may be
three sided rods and slides."
Loren says "I remember some real slide rules from long ago had six
or more sides."
Niobe nods. Absofragginlutely. Even though I have no idea how to operate
one in RL. ;)
Desh says "No clue here, either."
Annik doesn't get along with math, so I'm not sure I'd want to try.
Niobe nods vigorously!
Loren blushes. "I'm from a time before electronic calculators, so I
had to learn in school. They are simple things.
Annik patpats Loren.
Desh says "Math is not my friend."
Loren says "You can make a slide rule for adding and subtracting
with a pair of rulers."
Annik thinks she'll just stick to her calculator. ;)
You say "There is one more small thing on my agenda. I want to let
you all know that I'm going on vacation next week (starting the 14th) and it's
very doubtful that I'll have net access."
Niobe says "Have a good vacation, Annik! :)"
Desh says "Who will eat ice cream with me late at night?"
Loren says "Eep! .. I'll have three boys to baby sit next week too.
<sigh> .. Yes, have a good one, bosslady. :)"
Annik grins and pats Desh. I shouldn't be gone for more than a week, but
we can have lots of ice cream when I come back. ;)
Annik might /possibly/ manage to get online once in awhile, to check
mail, but it's doubtful. Even so, anything urgent can go +mail to me, Loren,
and Carissa, as usual.
Desh says "Oh, alright, then. Have fun!"
Kuroyi nods, "I hope you havea safe trip."
Annik grins. Don't let the Hall die out while I'm gone. I expect to hear
about many strange happenings and close calls of burning the hall down when I
get back!
Loren sighs. "So that means no nitrating glycerine?
Desh says "How long will you be gone? We'll set up shifts. Like,
Tuesday to Wednesday, it's Niobe's turn to try to blow up the hall."
Annik isn't sure exactly when I'll be back, but it won't be until the
19th at the earliest. :)
Annik reaches the end of her list of things to discuss. Anyone else?
Anything at all that you'd like to talk about?
Loren waves and heads out. "Good dinner, Annik. Thanks!"
Annik waves to Loren.
Loren heads out the large metal door to the meadow.
Loren has left.
Niobe says "Not that I can think of. Is this meeting being logged,
Annik? THIS part, I mean? :)"
Annik is logging, yes. I always log meetings.
Desh says "Oooh. Hi, mom! *wave wave*"
Annik smirks.
Desh says "I don't have any further questions or things to bring
up, no."
Kuroyi says "I do since I missed a lot, has there been a nother
official ic class date set?"
Annik hasn't set one, no, though I'm expecting a few Sr Apps to be doing
some lessons one of these days. *ahem* :)
Niobe nods. I /know/, I know. Can't make up my mind...
Kuroyi peers at Niobe. "WAs anyone promoted?"
Annik nods. Desh was promoted to Sr App.
Desh says "I think I want to do a basic coding class, actually. So
people can alllll learn to my anal-retentive specifications, mwahahaha!"
Kuroyi says "Awesome, Grats DEsh"
Annik smiles at Niobe. Just pick one. You can always do others later.
Desh says "Thanks, Kuroyi."
Kuroyi will definitely be working that night...
Annik nods. Coding is fine, if people are interested.
Niobe needs to go. Thanks for the meeting and the RP, everyone! :)
Niobe goes home.
Niobe has left.
Kuroyi says "Well I gotta get the rest of my darned music box I
need to get in touch with Korynn at the harper hall"
Annik nods.
Kuroyi coughs. That reminds me I sorta bartered some hinges to woodcraft
for my box part. ;)
Desh says "It'd be a good one if we get more junior apprentices.
Some might even be glad for it."
Annik shrugs, that's fine. Crafters barter with each other all the time.
You say "Yes, need more juniors... I will have to think about doing
another MUSHwide event, or even an area-wide event."
Kuroyi says "Maybe we could do something that involved TGW, like
deliver ore and supplies to there as part of the tithe train?""
Desh says "How often do we do a craft fair? Like all the crafts - weavers
and smiths and winecraft and tanners and beastcraft and stuff. Just a big
gathering for all the crafts to sell stuff?"
Annik nods. I remember doing a tithe train a long time ago... I think. I
also want to do that games day *evil grin at Desh* and do something with a new
batch of fireworks. Craft fair? Um, it's been done before but not that I can
remember. The craft council is, um, a little disorganized right now, but people
have been talking about it.
Desh mutters about setq and twitches.
Kuroyi says "SEems like that'd drum up interest in all the
crafts"
Desh says "Probably nutty to set up, coordinating all those
people."
You say "Only thing is, it'd be pain to organize... Right."
Desh says "The ice cream has melded our thoughts, Annik. Ommmm."
Kuroyi thinks you two are very strange.
Annik yays!
Annik is strange, yes of course. :)
Kuroyi thinks you'd hav eto be to put up with all us nutcases ;)
Annik shrugs and enjoys other nutcases. We're a fun bunch, when we're
around.
Desh says "I feel I am like a cashew, really."
Annik hmmms. Who wants me to do maps of the hall and put them online?
Kuroyi says "There aren't any in the atlas, right?"
Annik doesn't have the atlas. *whimper*
Desh says "None in the atlas. Maps? I'm indifferent to them."
Desh says "It's always set up differently in my head, anyway."
Kuroyi says "It'd help me out actually"
Kuroyi says "I have a hard time getting around here without going
through the same rooms 10 times"
Annik has actually already made some in my moments of inspired boredom.
Desh says "May as well post them, then."
You say "Although there's always +lhelp map."
Annik will probably post them anyway, cause they're nicer to look at,
and besides I'm CM so I can do whatever I want. ;)
Desh says "Ha ha ha. So there!"
Kuroyi laughs
You say "Btw, did either of you happen to get an e-mail reminder
about the meeting?"
Desh knows his way around from carting people about on IC tours. Email
reminder? I'll go look.
Kuroyi says "I did"
Desh rescues it from the junk mail folder.
Annik hmms and didn't get one. I usually do.
You say "I just had to be sure it actually sent, since I could
swear I set it to. :)"
You say "Well, if there's nothing else, I'll adjourn the
meeting."
Desh yawns, and nods.
Kuroyi nods. Night you two
Kuroyi goes home.
Kuroyi has left.
Annik bangs her gavel. Meeting adjourned!
