*Nick’s View*
I had just gotten dressed and I was really enjoying the evening. When I came out AJ and Rachel were walking back outside towards the beach. I turned to Mary. “Would you like to join them on the beach?”
“I would like that.” Mary said with a smile on her face. I had fallen for Mary and I had to work up the nerve to ask her out. I mean if it were a fan that it would be easy. They would scream my name a few times and say will you go out with me. They do all the talking. Mary wasn’t a screaming fan. She was Mary, quiet, reserved and shy when it came to guys. I knew since I was her best friend. As we walked out to the beach Mary spoke up.
“AJ and Rachel look so cute. I’m glad that they’re together.” She said.
“It’s about time, I got sick of AJ moping around the house always talking about her. Now they’re together we should have less of that.” I got to thinking about how I thought about Mary constantly but I never said anything. I was just more quiet then usual.
“I’ll agree with that.” We finally got to the beach and there was AJ and Rachel sitting in the sand. Rachel was leaning against AJ while he was holding her. They both were looking at the sky.
“Mind if we join you guys.” I asked.
“Nope go right on ahead.” Rachel said.
I took a seat on the ground and Mary just looked at me. “I’m not sitting on the sand…I’ll get all sandy.” I looked over at Rachel and saw her roll her eyes.
“You can sit on my lap. How about that?” I said hoping she would take me up on my offer.
“Sure.” She sat down. Most nights I would have been trying to find a few constellations but I had the girl of my dreams on my lap. I was thinking of a way that I could ask her out. I was so happy when I got that back rub tonight. It felt so good. I seem to remember her saying something about not being able to give back rubs about 6 months ago but I think she was lying after tonight. That was the best back rub I’ve ever had. I looked over at AJ and Rachel and I remember when they used to be arguing and she would always leave to cool off. AJ had changed and now they were back together. I was really happy for them. Just then I saw a shooting star. “Hey a shooting star.” Mary said breaking my concentration. “Make a wish.” I wished for the happiness with Mary that AJ and Rachel had at this moment. I wondered if it would come true. I hoped that it would come true. It seemed like Mary had gotten over Brian and I felt that it was okay if I asked her out. But I wondered how she would take it cause after all we are best friends. But I wanted to be more, much more.
“So did you guys have fun today?” Rachel asked breaking the silence.
“Yeah.” I said. I really did have fun.
“I had a very good day.” AJ said.
“I wonder why that is.” Rachel said turning around to look at him. She smiled. It was gonna be a lot of fun having her on tour with us. We could start pulling our practical jokes again.
“Gee, I don’t know.” They gave each other a little kiss.
“Well, guys. I’m gonna go back up. I’m cold and tired.” Mary said. She can’t go. But I didn’t have a shirt to give her. Dangit, this sucked.
“Bye Mary.” Rachel said. She walked up leaving me with Rachel and AJ. “Ya know what? She’s got a good idea. I’m going in to.” She stood up and looked at AJ. “Ya coming with me babe?”
“I’ll be in, in a little bit.” He said.
“Okay.” She walked back up to the house.
“So what’s up with Mary and you?” He asked me.
“I like her.”
“I figured that much.” Some how AJ just knew. “So what are ya gonna do about that?”
“I’m not sure.” I really didn’t know. I mean I wanted to talk to her but I didn’t know what to say or anything.
“How about just talking to her.”
“I wouldn’t know what to say.”
“Just speak from your heart.”
“Is that what you did?” I asked him. I mean he just went through this with Rachel he should know.
“Yes.”
“And you’re with Rachel. So if I talk to Mary from my heart then I’ll get together with her.” I said hopeful.
“Nick, it’s not a sure thing that if you speak from your heart that you’re going to get with her. But when you do talk to her just speak from your heart. If you don’t get with her right away, she will know how you feel about her, and that’s the biggest step.” AJ sounded so confident. He was right too. “Listen I’m going in, ya comin or ya stayin?”
“I’ll stay out here and little bit longer.”
“Okay Nicky.” He said as he got up and walked away.
` I really just needed to be alone with my thoughts.
