My family name is TAO (in Chinese Pinying) or (Chinese character) which means potter, the maker of pottery. Chinese character is pictograph and consists of strokes. The modern Chinese characters have evolved and simplified from ancient ones for more than 3500 years. The ancient character of had only the right part, which was inscribed on bones or tortoise shells in the period of 1600 to 1100 BC.
