It was a thriller Production Sizzle on the 2nd and 3rd of January. With the installation of a new motor, the weekend was bound to be one of many highs, and with Dad's reputation - especially round home - some lows.
The weekend started for Dad and the boys at about lunch time on the Wednesday a week beforehand - puting in the new engine, drinking, fixing things, drinking, fine-tuning and drinking (It was the Christmas / New Year break after all). When the beast was finally put on the trailer to be carted to the Speedway, everyone was nervus and excited. And we were the ones watching!
The racing started wit hDad in heat 1B (ish)... and it didn't go so great. There were problems. He had a problem with his fuel line - or something to do with fuel (hey.. I'm a tech-head not a rev-head). And one of his belts broke - the one's attached to the engine not round his gut.. :| (Don't tell him I said that), and thanks to Bishop Race Supplies was quickly replaced.
Dad's second heat came pretty quickly ad I was hoping for some good news. Dad did exceptionally well - first place! I swear I would have heard Shaddy shouting and screaming it if wasn't for the simple fact that I was doing it myself! I even had a few weird looks from the guys next to me.
Then Dad's third heat came along. Everyone was still on a high from the last race. But the demons surfaced again, and Dad went out with a flat.
The second night was just as spectacular as the first - even more so if you as me. Dad was sitting in 11th place for the Sizzle at the start of the night - not bad!
The first race came and went. Another race another tyre.
The second race - and it was great to watch. Dad finished first with a lot of screams from my corner of the track. He'd finished 17th overall. That could only mean one thing...
Dad made it into the B main - and was starting pole. This was a spectacular race in itself. Dad was doing magnificently... until about lap 15 / 16.. turn 2 (I know this coz' that's where I was sitting). Dad was in the lead.. and spun... But Dad didn't give up. Hell no - only a few laps left (with me looking through my fingers..) and the race was on...Dad went like a bat out of hell and scraped through with 4th place - which gave him an entry to the Sizzle.
But alas, Dad had to pull out - he nearly set himself and his car on fire during B main. After much running round and pulling apart and probably getting hit by all sorts of random engine parts - Dad, Shaddy and Geoff decided that was it! It was a great effort by all the boys.
Before I sign off two more things: A BIG thankyou to Thunder Race Engines for supplying Dad with his engine - it's about time Dad had the machinery to match his skill!
The second thing: Damn proud of you Dad!!
