This article, though a bit old (1997), is still a very thought-provoking read.
Dreams are private myths. Myths are public dreams.

the dying software worker
Are you a salaried employee in the computer industry?
Company "requiring" you to work 12/7 with no additional overtime benefits?
Guess what? You're out of luck.
section 213(a)(17) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 exempts computer software workers
digital media levy
- The Government charges you a levy for every blank recordable media and media device for the Media companies. Which means that you're getting taxed even if you don't use it to record any Media related content, or if your recording is legitimate fair use.

the MPAA/RIAA
- I do not like the way the MPAA is restricting our fair use rights on DVDs through the use of CSS and RegionCoding. Boycott the MPAA.

- In a world of prosperity, it is sometimes hard to give up our favorite music and/or movies. But still we must try to stand up for our rights, and for the wellfare of art and artistic producers. For bands, most of record sales go toward the recording companies, not the bands! Find alternative ways to support your favorite bands, like going to their concerts when they're in/near town.
- Don't Buy CDs
- Don't let the RIAA and MPAA use the word "pirate" as a dysphemism against you. Copyright is a compromise between rewarding creators and enhancing the pool of artistic works for society to enjoy and build on. Where would Disney be without public works such as Snow White, Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Alladin, and Beaty and the Beast to build their own works upon? There is a balance to be had between the need to protect profit and the need to allow artistic derivatives and diversified work.

The more I keep dealing with computers, the more it resembles a bad redneck romance:
constantly flipping between "I love you so much!" and "Baby, why you gotta make me hit you?"

Due to the constant evolution of the Linux platform, sometimes software fails to compile due to shifts in libraries, headers, etc. So, I decided to start keeping a running log of the compiler error workarounds for some projects.
