INTERCEPTOR

Max and the Goose enjoy themselves
(MADMAX 1979)
My dream to have a replica of Max's (played by Mel Gibson) XB Falcon Interceptor from MADMAX started long ago in the mid 1980's with my first encounter of the movie on TV . In 1996 my mind was made up to buy an XB Falcon... But to make a replica Coupe Interceptor would be difficult as i knew nothing about the parts required for the fiberglass nose cone or about the supercharger (or even if they were still available). XB Falcon Coupes were also hard to come by locally and more expensive to buy.. so I made my mind up on buying a XB sedan instead and making a replica of the Yellow Interceptor.. as it was also cheaper too !

In 1997 I came across a plain XB Ford Fairmont which had a 302cu V8 and a C4 auto... It was all original inside and out, and in good condition.

Over the years the car has had some work done to it to bring it a bit closer to the movie car.. including Two rebuilt engines, Dual 2 and a half inch exhaust and extractors , 8inch wide Apache rims, removal of the Vinyl roof, a GS Bonnet with GT bonnet pins, GS Grill and Dash fitted, having rust removed and even personalized MFP number plates !
In 1999 I came across Peter Barton's MADMAX FAQ web page , which provided me with loads of information on the actual car used in the movie and building a replica. (Peter you are credit to all the fans out there!). Though one thing which people were not sure on was the brand of Police lights fitted MAX'S Yellow Interceptor and Black Coupe Interceptor. After about 12months searching on and off the Internet I finally came across a company in the USA (Peterson Manufacturing Company.) which makes lights that are virtually identical to the ones in the movie, and i believe them to be the correct type. (This company also makes the same dash mounted light as used the Black Interceptor).

Apart from the Police lights... various other parts would be need to complete the replica car. Front spoiler, L88 Corvette bonnet scoop, Roof mounted spoiler, Roof mounted horn speaker, Apache style wheel rims, Wheel arch flares, MFP Badge decals and a replica of the roof mounted RVS Police Radio (SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS ABOUT THE RVS RADIO).

As a project for myself I decided to build my own replica RVS Police Radio and watched the movie many times over to gain as much detail and information as possible. Although i couldn't be 100% correct in an exact replica, I am fairly close to the mark and as accurate where possible to the movie original. These replicas have been sold to other MadMax fans for use in their own replica cars in Australia, the USA, Canada, England and Japan. The picture below on the left shows one of my first attempts, my current RVS replicas (on right) are now more accurate.
