Lily's Weight Loss Journal:

March 5th - March 9th, 2001

Monday, March 5th, 2001

No weight today. The east coast is being crippled by a snow storm, and the powers that be at work decided not to open today. Which is very, very wonderful (who doesn't like being paid for sitting around the house in her jammies all day?). It is likely that we will be closed on Tuesday as well. So I can't weigh in at the office as I usually do. I also have some understanding of what it must be like to be a stay-at-home mother trying to lose weight. It's difficult because the kitchen is only 20 feet away. When I am at home, I tend to simply snack the day away, especially when I am in front of the computer. When I am at work, there is no easy access to food, so staying on my weight loss plan is relatively easy. I have decided however not to let these next 'days off' for inclimate weather mean days off in my exercise and weight loss routine. So I am counting calories and doing my aerobic videos at home.

So how did I fair this weekend restraining myself? So-so. John took me out to dinner on Friday, and instead of us each getting an entree, we split a large ceasar salad and pasta creation. Saturday night didn't pan out so good. John's step-mom was having her birthday, so we took her out to eat. I had lots of pumpernickle bread and this vegetarian lasagna dish...and two glasses of wine (wince). Sunday night, I cooked and we had spaghetti with ground turkey meat sauce. Again, I really don't know how many calories I consumed.

It was this morning when John started making breakfast that erked me. He started making pancakes, and when he was about finished, I started slicing my english muffin for the toaster. He said that he was planning on making me a pancake, but I refused. He also poured me a glass of apple juice. For reasons having to do with the weather, I was already in a certain snippy mood, and didn't feel that this was a good time to bring up my request that he confirms with me what he is cooking for me. In the past, I do this simply by stating, "I am making X for supper; would you like juice or water with it?" I ask and inform; he just makes. I think at our next meal when he cooks I will bring it up. Communication is a good thing.

So, my challenge for the day is to get in that cardio workout and weight training, and not raid the fridge. Wish me luck.

So the storm lasted until Tuesday, and I am back to work today. I finally got to weigh myself in, and came in at an even 133 pounds, only one pound less than I was last week. While this is still progress, I'm a bit disappointed that I'm not keeping to my 2 pounds/week drop. While I kept myself to 1200 - 1300 calories on Monday and Tuesday while I was snow-bound, and did my usual cardio and weight lifting, I was disappointed not to be further along. I can attribute it to not counting my calories on the weekend, and perhaps (I hope) to some muscle gain from my strength training. Next weekend promises another rash of parties. That's all from the weight loss front today. Keep drinking that water!
