| Should I get a cat and why choose a cat over another pet Why do people choose cats over other pets? There are 63 million of cats that are kept as pets around the world! Cats are exelent as pets if you get to know them, spend time with them, and treat them right. Reasons for choosing a cat as pet: Cats are fairly quiet pets Cats are small Cats don't need to be walked or let outside because they bury their own waste Cats require less grooming than dogs Although cats welcome and thrive on your attention and love to be cuddled and talked to often, they are fairly independent animals Cats are not aggressive Cats are less costly than dogs in every sense: vet care, grooming, food, etc. Cats can live and be happy in smaller, inside places like apartments or condos When compared to dogs cats require less exercise, although it is very healthy for them if you get more than one cat they will exercise plenty running after each other Cats require minimal training, their mom-cat already did: kittens are litter and grooming trained by the time they are 8-9 weeks old. If you never had a cat you and are thinking about adopting one, you should ask yourself a number of QUESTIONS before you make a final decision. Remeber, the answers to those questions have to be yes, unconditionally. If the questions raise doubts or concerns, get more information. Once you decided that you are ready for a feline companion, HOW DO YOU CHOOSE ONE. There are so many choices, and once you start looking they are all cute and adorable. I am a true believer that once you see a cat that is right for you he or she will let you know!!! However, it is important that you know as much about what you want because as with any roommate you have to be compatible and have things in common, right? And while you are deciding what kind of cat you want, think about HOW MANY CATS as well. If your space allows you to have more than one go for it. Trust me it is not much more work or hair, but your cats will be much more entertained with each other and it is more fun for you as well. So, WHERE DO YOU GO TO GET A CAT? Well, as many as there are cats there are places where t o get them. I am a all for adoption from a local shelter. Not only you will give a cat a new chance in life you will also free up a spot to rescue another one becauser there are always more cats than resources to save them. Local shelters have pure breds too by the way. Once you find your feline soulmate or several soulmates - PREPARE YOURSELF AND YOUR HOME for their arrival. It is important for you and your cats to start off on the right foot especially if you are bringing kitties. And last but not least, FIND A VET for your felines. It might not seem obvious but most vets know lots about dogs but not much about cats. I personally have a couple of clinics for my cats. One for general check ups and vaccinations - it is a vet hospital, very nice and clean, open 24 hrs - for emergencies it is very important as well as for convenient hours. The second one is a feline clinic - specilizing in cats only - for those cases when the general vets are unable to give you an answer or a solution. If you are a t aloss - just conatct any no-kill cat rescue organization in your area - they always have good vets working with them. |
