| Crowds Monday, March 11, 2002 First off, let me apoligize for the recent lack of updates to this webpage. I have been extremely busy as of late preparing for the tour that the Maniac Wrestling Alliance just finished. It was a short tour, with shows only in Prince Rupert and Burns Lake, but there is still lots of preperation needed to make these tours a success. Also right before we left for the tour we had "Massace 2" at the Prince George Roll-a-Dome. At "Massacre" and the two road shows I was matched up with Spencer "The Hellraiser" Lewis. And I am proud (but not suprised) to say that I whooped his ass in every match!!!Now some people out there may think that I cheated to get these victories but those people are not very open minded. The way I look at it, I "creatively avoid the rules" which is completely different than cheating. But, to be serious for a second, I believe Spencer and I put on one hell of a show and worked very well together on all three of the shows. We were the opening match at every show and I think that we accomplished the task of getting the crowd fired up and excited to see more wrestling, which is the objective of wrestling in the first match of the night. So if Mr.Lewis would ever like to have a match with me again I would consider it a privilage...and also a great oppertunity to beat him again!!! On a different note, when got home last night after the tour, I took time to reflect on the entire tour and relive some of the higher moments that occured in my head. And I must say that all of the wrestler of the M.W.A. really pulled out all the stops and put on high quality matches for all of the fans that we had the oppertunity to perform for on this tour. But one thing stood out in my mind more that the great matches that took place. What my mind kept reflecting on was the crowds. While all three shows, PG, Rupert, and Burns Lake, had a respectable turnout of fans, they were not quite as many as the M.W.A. would have liked to see. Why the crowds weren't overly large, I don't know. Mabye wrestling isn't as popular as I like to think it is. But what really blew my mind away was the fact that these smaller crowds seemed to be twice as loud and more into the shows than any of the larger crowds that I have performed for. I think the reason for this is that with a smaller crowd you can personalize your performance more. What I mean by this is as a fan watching wrestling in a smaller crowd, you almost feel like some of thing things the wrestlers are doing in the ring are not just to entertain the crowd as a whole, but rather to entertain you personally. And I think that it really makes the fan feel like they are actually a part of the show and not just there watching. And it is my belief that wrestlers including myself need to make that a top priority when performing for a crowd. You need to try and make the fans feel like they are a part of the show and a part of something really special. And really, when you get right down to it, the crowd IS a part of the show. What makes a good wrestling show? Well obviously the performance of the wrestlers and the quality of the matchesis a vital part. But just as inportant is the reaction from the crowd. I find it hard to put forth my best effort and give everything I can for a crowd who is so quiet that you could hear a pin drop throughout the facility where you are wrestling. But when the crowd is fired up and cheering the good guys and heckling the bad guys and popping for all of the moves, that is when myself along with all other wrestlers around the world are going to give 110% and make sure they do everything they possibly can to make sure the fans feel like they got their money's worth. So what I am trying to say is that it is not the size of the crowd that really matters, but rather the attitude that the crowd has through out the show. Personally, I would rather wrestle in front of sixty fans who are screaming there heads off and have lost there voice by the end of the show than I would in front of 500 fans who don't make so much as a squeak for the entire night. Because when the crowd is into it, and they're yelling and screaming, and cheering and booing, I feel that my job of being a professional wrestler is the greatest job in the world!!! So untill next time Face the Sledge Hammer....If You Dare!!!! |
