4. Received your mediation music CD two days ago. Thanks. I like the music.

I think most people  like to have music while they meditate.

5. I love the music. It is very beautiful. Do you know by any chance why the

musician entitled it Healing Music Forgiveness?

6. OK. I received the CD and I’ve played it twice, so I am able to give my

first impressions. The sample that is on the disk is mono only, since it is not

the final version. Since I don’t practice a taiji form, I can’t say whether the

track is intended to accompany a specific sequence of movement.

The music has a slow rhythm which is very conducive to a calm state.

Also, it contains a kind of emptiness which encourages you to dissolve away

your cares. There is a short section in the middle where a beating effect occurs.

I don’t know whether this is designed to encourage brain wave enhancement

or whether it has some other purpose, or none.

The music is titled “Forgiveness” and I suppose that it is designed to help

people to become at ease with themselves. I haven’t listened to much of this

type of music before, so I can’t say how it compares to other people's efforts,

but for me it encourages the right state very well.

Overall, I’d say that it is helpful for inducing a comfortable state of mind and

that it has some value in a healing context.

7. Thank You for the CD, I really enjoy it and will use it when I teach

Tai-Chi.

8.  I found that it added primarily an atmospheric element to my standing.

The music was similar to the tree I was looking at-- basically still, but always

moving slightly.  It was soothing and it made it easier to be less conscious of

time, in that I did not have to count my breaths in order to know when to stop

standing.  I am not sure if it had any deeper effects, of which I may not be

conscious.  I will continue to listen to it while standing at night, and perhaps

with more listens, and perhaps with comparisons to other music, I will have

something more interesting to say. I will let you know if I do.  Thank you.

Todd Ruhlen, USA. 20.5.2004

9. 上次的音樂不懂欣賞, 我心目中的冥想音樂是類似(Manta)的使你進

入潛意識的, 可惜我不懂作曲.

10. Thank you for the cd which I received some time ago. Whilst it is a very commendable effort there are some points that needs to be addressed:
1. The music is relaxing enough upon initial casual listening. When I start to listen with attention I feel a sadness, an emptiness in the music which is a little unsettling. Maybe the composer is too caught up in the issue of forgiveness. It is better to let go.
2. The melody is very loose in its structure which is normally ok as we do not want the mind to be too concentrated on and distracted by strong melodic lines but in this case the loose melodic structure is exacerbated by the almost non-existent meter(tempo, rhythm). I would have liked the music to have a stronger pulse at a moderate tempo like andante. Taoists talk about embracing the breath with the mind and also embracing the mind with the breath and to listen to one's heartbeat. This is why I feel rhythm is very important and cannot be too loose, and it has to be between 76 and 108 beats per minute sort of like in imitation to the heartbeat. A slow and steady rhythm is imperative in stilling the monkey mind.
3. Not having a strong melody is ok but not stating the key or tonal centre is not. It does not have to be in a minor key all the time in order for the music to be introspective and/or relaxing(although it usually is). One can also experiment along the lines of modality. Dorian mode is my preference and Mixolydian is not too suitable for relaxation.

I need to find out the following things from you:
1. What keyboard was used in the production? Was it a Korg workstation?
2. Was sequencing software used and if yes, which particular program?

Thanks

11. Thank you for listening, and your comment.
You have a good understanding of music and a heart to listen.

I use Musical instruments: Roland G-800 workstation, and Roland JV-90.
The music is recorded in One-Take single track manner, with the belief that true instinct, or inner context is reflected by the real time moment. No auditing or touch up has been done.

For the flow in this piece of music, I use the keys/chords of C major, D Minor F major, G Major, and A minor interchanging along sections. The ranges of note refer to that of the human voices. The Minor key is used to reflect the title mood.

The music includes 7 sections. Each section has its individual character, own melody, sound components, and messages. It follows a pattern of introduction, story, peak, retrospect, and ending.

I totally agree with you. For meditation, and for movement of Tai Chi, the heart beat is the rhythm. You will notice that the beat is hidden in the melody. Whereas the long steady and slow string assemble is inducing the breathing line. The pulses I made are in a manner that weaker the ripples, the farther away from the centre. Loose-beat, and non-chord are done intentionally believing that people will not be led/dragged along.

Thanks again. I am expecting others who have more comments to make.

12. Thank you for your CD, which impresses me a lot.

It is different from many other healing 'music' that I can find in Asia, USA, Canada, and Europe.

I found this CD contents of 'sound' , 'rhythm', 'tone' and 'notes' which are not only helping people to control their breath in a harmony and deeper way from normal, and also assists people to relieve from plain and stress.

I guess this may be a combination of some sort of your "Chi Kung" in Chinese Kung Fu and Buddhist "Zen", like meditation or Yoga.

I am working in an insurance company in Toronto. My office has set up a corner in staff leisure room for their self-training and convenience. We play the CD as background music, and we love it.

Looking for your other series soon.
