I’m a prisoner. She was
furious with her dad. How dare he come to Sunnydale and practically kidnap her?
Buffy had saved her from a lot of things but Dawn was deathly afraid that this
was one battle she couldn’t win.
“Dawn open the door
please?” he’d been saying that for the past 2 hours. As soon as they got to his
apartment she’d run to Buffy’s old room and locked herself in. there were 2
reasons for going to Buffy’s room and not hers, Buffy always made her feel safe
and she felt like she needed to be near her right now and plus Buffy’s room had
a lock hers didn’t. He hadn’t changed a single detail since the day they’d
left. Even the hair stuff and make up she’d left behind was laying on her
dressing table. Dawn heard a tapping. She moved to the window.
“Invite me in Dawn.”
“Angel come in.” Angel
climbed through the window. “Angel I wanna go home.” Angel wrapped his arms
around the little girl he’d once known. Buffy’s sister. His almost sister.
“Buffy and the gang are
working on a way to get you home. It’s definitely gonna work in their favour
that you want to be there and your dad just took you without letting anyone
know.”
“He’s my dad Angel, you can’t beat that.”
“We’ll find a way.” Angel
looked apologetically at Dawn and moved to the window.
“Take me with you.”
“I can’t.” Angel hugged her
again and then disappeared. He might not be able to take her with him but she
could certainly sneak out. It was easy enough from Buffy’s room after all she’d
done it a million times.
Cordelia’s head was
hurting. She liked being able to help people but the visions were getting more
and more painful. It was getting so she couldn’t even go help with the fight
because her head was that bad. The visions weren’t just making her head hurt
anymore they were making her weak and tired. She hated that. The door opened
and she rushed out the office to find out if they had saved the little girl and
her mother. She was shocked to see not 4 people as she expected but 1. And that
1 wasn’t one of the group.
“Dawn.” Dawn tried a weak
smile but didn’t make it.
“Hi.” It was then that
Angel and the others decided to make their entrance covered in demon stuff, was
the only word Cordy could think of to describe the green that clung to them.
“Dawn!”
“Angel I know you said you
couldn’t take me with you so I thought I’d just leave, the same way you did and
Buffy used to.”
“You just left!”
“Yes.” Dawn was on the
verge of tears now. “I don’t want to be there.” Tears were now freely falling
down her face. “Last time we visited he kept bringing women home. My room is
the other end of the hall and I could hear everything. I can’t live like that.
The only reason he wants me is because he can use me to ‘score’ with the
sensitive ‘chicks.’” Cordelia had thought her home life had sucked but she
realised now what Buffy and Dawn must have gone through. Dawn was still going
through this. Cordy went over and put her arms round the sobbing girl’s
shoulders. She guided her towards the office and grabbed a box of tissues on
her way.
“Hi Dawn you want some
tea?” Dawn smiled through her tears, although Wesley was younger and a little
bit more conservative or had been when they knew him he reminded her of Giles a
comfort she liked right now.
“Come on English she’s not
some old British guy or lady. She don’t want no tea. What kinda soda do you
want cos since all people round here seem to drink is tea, coffee or blood I’ll
have to run down to the 7-11 on the corner.”
Dawn did not know who this
guy was but she liked him.
“Coke. Thanks.” Dawn looked
at Cordy questioningly.
“Hey considering you take
the piss out of the British at least they have manners enough to introduce
themselves to someone who doesn’t know them.” The guy stopped in his tracks. He
spun round to face them.
“Hey kid I’m Gunn. I’m
guessing you’re Dawn cos that’s what people have been calling you.”
“Hi I’m Buffy’s sister.”
“Oh the famous Dawn.” He
smiled at me and then left. The girl stood behind everyone smiled at me.
“Hi I’m Dawn.”
“I’m Fred, well Winifred
but everyone calls me Fred.” It was then I noticed Angel had disappeared.
“Where’s Angel?” I heard a
voice behind me.
“Angel is doing the dad
thing.” I turned to see Angel cradling a baby.
“Dawn this is Connor,
Connor this is Dawn.”
“He’s so sweet but who?”
“He’s mine. Mine and
Darla’s.” Dawn’s eyes nearly popped out her head.
