Getting a Collar

There are many things to consider concerning the matter of collars on Gor.  In Gor, a collar is permanent unless the Master wishes it otherwise.  You do not choose when you get out of it, your happiness makes no difference to whether or not it stays on your neck.  The only thing that matters is whether your Master wishes to keep you or not.  In Gor, you may choose whose collar you beg, but that is the last choice you will be permitted to make freely if he decides to grant you his steel.  A collar is not a bauble or a prize, it is not something sought as a status symbol, and it does not make you better than another girl.  It is not a means of protection, a source of legitimacy, an excuse, or a shield.  It is NOT YOURS.  It is HIS.  Above all, be sure...  Not just sure, but soul shatteringly positive.  synne once wrote a quiz to help people decide whether or not a collar was a good idea.  Perhaps take a moment to scroll through it, and see just how many answers you have, and whether or not they point you toward a collar, or away from it.

The Quiz

Taking a collar means allowing another person complete and total veto power over everything you say and do.  Your Owner will choose your name, and it is not yours, but rather a name he allows you to wear.  If he chooses to allow you to wear something, the thing you wear is still his.  Your body is his, your mind is his, your soul is his, and he and he alone will decide how it is to be used and for what purpose.  Do you know him well enough to know that you can remain in his collar as long as he will allow it?
That is an important thing to think about, for collar-hopping, and velcro collars are terms used to describe a girl who cannot stay in one collar, or who does not take them seriously.  Collars are meant to be permanent, unless the Master decides you no longer have value to him, or he wishes to sell you.  If he decides you are no longer of any value to him, chances are you will be seen as a failure as a slave, and it will take a long time and a lot of hard work to prove yourself sincere and serious in your slavery.  This is why girls work so incredibly hard to be useful and pleasing to their Masters.  As in the books, though thankfully not to such an irreversible degree, what Masters think of you will decide how long your life on Gor will be.
Finally, if you truly have thought it out, and taken your time understanding what a collar is and what it means to you and to him, and you have taken time to be sure that it is the right thing, all that is left to do is beg a collar.  Remember, just begging a collar does not mean a girl will get it, either.  This, like all else in Gor, is a man's decision, and he cannot be manipulated into giving you what you want.
The position used to beg a collar is to kneel before the Master in nadu, your head lowered, and your wrists crossed and offered above your head.  Traditionally, in the books, you would state something like, "I, Jane Doe, submit myself to you, John Smith." but in chat, as the customs are slightly different to make allowances for the medium, it might be best to simply beg him to collar you.  "Master John Smith, this girl submits herself to you and begs you to collar her."
From this point forth, the ball is in his court.  He may deny you his collar, in which case you will remain respectful and humble, and remember that such is his choice, after all, you are only a slave.  On the other hand, he may collar you, and from that point forth, his slightest wish is your highest goal.  His word is as law to you, you have forfeited all rights into his keeping, to allow them to you as he sees fit, or not at all.  Be careful.  Gor is not fair.  Gor is Gor.
