![]() Why All The Slashing? Well, for one, it's fun. It's not dirty, or wrong, or stupid, it's fun and most of all, valid. A lot of people tend to dismiss slash fiction as "low grade porn from the mind of the horny young boys who write it", to quote a Buffy fan I once spoke to on Yahoo. Well, wrong sister. Not only is slash fiction beautifully written, sometimes more so than regular fanfic, a lot of it is written by women. Ohh! Gasp! How did that happen? Let's face it folks, women tend to write emotions well. Mainly because we have so damn many of them. Not to dismiss male writers, but women know how women feel. We also know how men feel, because we're so gosh darn multi talented. That makes a lot slash, which tends to be VERY emotionally complex, even better. So, one myth busted. The other? That slash is low grade porn? Not true either! As I said above, slash can be written so beautifully, so elegently, that some will actually take your breath away. I believe the main reason for this is that in slash the rules don't apply, because on some level what you're writing is already breaking them. No matter how far gay rights have come, some people just still don't accept homosexuality. This tends to cast a large shadow on slash. It also gives slash authors a certain freedom. If you know there are people who aren't going to like it anyway, why not make it amazing for those who do? The slash author is a rare breed, a perfect mix of talent and raw emotion. Now, admittedly, not all slash is beautiful. There is the occasional bad author, but the beauty of the slash community is that the good authors help make them better. No one with an idea or emotion they want to express should be told they can't. They do, unfortunatlly, have the tendency to give the slash community a bad name. That's what this site is here for. To give us a good one. To showcase amazing authors, who write about amazing characters. I have nothing against fiction that pairs Anya, Cordelia, or Faith in a heterosexual relationship, I just find the slash to be much more interesting. I consider all three to be extremely slashable, hence the site, and the fun. So go; eat drink, and be merry. But do it with your slash pride intact. Regina |
