Day 1: Tucson to Phoenix
We spent a long time on Sunday packing the BNANA.Today's journey was short; our goal was simply to get to north Phoenix so that we could start the main portion of our trip very early on Monday morning. By starting there we would not have to contend with the dreadful Phoenix rush-hour traffic.

We left Tucson for Phoenix at 11:00 AM. Hot and soon to get hotter. For most of the trip, the temperature was 108 degrees F (42 degrees C for those of you on the metric system).  Once the air temperature is hotter than body temperature the faster you go, the hotter it feels. The trip was 127 very L-O-N-G miles. Hard to show you how hot it was, so instead we're posting a picture of our lunch at the Waffle House. The main virtue of the Waffle House is that it was next to our hotel so we didn't have to spend much time outside till things cooled off.

In the evening things cooled down to a mild 95 degrees F.
