the time.
Think on These Things
According to Proverbs our thoughts
determine to a large extent the kind of life we live: "For as he thinketh
in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7). This workshop opens by giving men the opportunity to evaluate their lives
using a scale of one to ten, one being as bad as it gets and ten being as good
as it can get. The rest of the workshop is directed toward enabling men to move
up the scale from where they are presently, and live better lives. The workshop content is based
upon the premise that thoughts cause feelings, and feelings often determine much
of one's behavior. If one wants to change his feelings and or behavior, he must first change his
thoughts, and the good news is "We are in control of what we
think." The Bible has much to say about thoughts. The New Testament
directs us to "cast down vain imaginations" and to "bring every
thought into captivity." Philippians 4:8-10 provides considerable
structure to the workshop. This workshop teaches men the power of
GODLY
THINKING. The concept of
Governing Values and the difference between important things and urgent things
are cornerstones in this workshop. Handouts, outlines and transparencies are utilized. The workshop can
vary in length form one to five hours.
The
Evils of Pornography
This
workshop deals with the destructive forces utilized by Satan to lure men of all
ages in to spiritual weakness and emptiness through pornography. A
significant portion of the workshop is dedicated to how one is impacted both
physically, emotionally and spiritually by exposure to all kinds of pornography.
Participants will learn how to overcome temptation and how to protect loved ones
from this ever present evil of today's society. This
is a powerful and valuable workshop for both men and women of all ages.
The story of David's sin with Bathsheba provides the Biblical framework for the
workshop. Handouts, Transparencies and outlines are utilized.
One to four hours.
Life is a
Stage, You are a Player, and You have a Script
Our view of the world, our view of
women, the way we handle money, the ways we interact with others, the way we
parent our children... all this and more is written for us on our Life
Scripts. This
workshop looks into why we are the way we are, why we do the things we do, why
we make the decisions we make; and, if changes are needed to conform our lives
to the likeness of Christ, how that can be done. Our scripts come to us
through our early caregivers. Participants in this workshop examine their life scripts and determine if there are some pieces
being lived out that are destructive and in conflict with the Abundant Life that Christ came to
bring us. How to remove negative destructive untrue script statements, and
how to replace them with
positive true and constructive beliefs are discussed and illustrated. Handouts, transparencies and
outlines are utilized. One to four hours.
Why
We Act The Way We Do
Beyond the "I have it
together" facade of today's typical male, one finds a man struggling with
the job of being what he knows he ought to be. According to a model of personality and behavior, it seems that
while striving to always act like a mature and rational adult, most people sometimes
find themselves acting like a critical parent or a hurting or angry child.
This workshop illustrates that at any one time we might be sitting in, and
operating out of, one of three chairs, the Parent
chair, the Adult chair, or the Child's chair. Participants both laugh and
cry as they see themselves portrayed in this down to earth simple and easy to
understand model of why we act the way we do. It is the adult part of
us that has its communion with God. When we are critical of ourselves or
of others, when we are fearful, hurt or angry, we cannot wholly respond to the
Lord's work in us. The goal is to strengthen one's Adult state and to lock
oneself in that mode. The concepts studied in this workshop gives
understanding to why there is so much conflict between couples and within
families today. Handouts, transparencies, outlines, and props are utilized.
One to four hours.
The
Abundant Life
This
workshop looks into the dynamics at work in the world today preventing men from
getting deep into Christ-likeness. The characteristics of, and how to become a man
of integrity are discussed in this Biblically based workshop. Obstacles to
growth and maturity are explored and Biblically based principles of overcoming
them are studied and illustrated. Handouts, transparencies, and outlines are utilized. One to four
hours.
The
Seasons of a Man's Life
As
men mature from childhood to senior adults they pass through maturational
stages, both physical and spiritual. These 'seasons' are discussed along with the
life tasks that must be accomplished during those different seasons that make
for a mature man of God. When one fails to accomplish the life tasks of
one maturational stage, complications can occur the next stage. One can
get 'stuck' and experience trouble with the spiritual and emotional growth of
the next stage of life. Biblical instructions and examples are taught about how
to move into the mature stage of where one is presently. Handouts,
transparencies and outlines are utilized. One to four hours.
Things Forbidden in the Life of a
Christian Man
A Christian man of integrity daily surrenders
his life to the
lordship of Christ. This workshop examines the traps and devices that Satan employs
to entice a man to sin. Biblical principles necessary in handling
temptation and doing the right thing always are studied. There are some behaviors that
are expressly forbidden in the lifestyle of a man of integrity. This
workshop focuses on some of those things which are recorded in Ephesians
5. After establishing a thorough understanding of the forbidden things,
the workshop moves into the area of thinking and feeling that is often the
source of yielding to temptation. David fell into adultery with Bathsheba;
when one examines the Biblical narrative of David's sin it becomes clear that
David made some mistakes. We can learn from his mistakes and avoid the
same pitfalls. Handouts, transparencies and outlines are utilized.
One to four hours.
