About Korea
The place where I lived was in Kimpo. It is located just outside the city of Seoul. The city has a population of 170,000. The apartment shown here is right next door to mine. My apartment is a newer three bedroom, two bath, kitch, living room, and all rooms have a walk out patio. Im located on the 15th floor, so the view is pretty good. Carpeting is not used here very much. Heating is provided thru heating pipes in the floor. The weather is very similar to that of the United States. Four seasons, with typhoon season coming in late fall. We experienced two typhoons last year and they were a blast. :) Because of expensive land costs in Korea, a majority of people live in these apartments. When you look down from an airplane, all you can see for miles, is these structures.
Koreans have held on to many of their ideals from the past. They do things the most economical way possible. Many of these traditions have been past on from generation to generation for several hundred years. Many of them can be seen at the Suwon Folk Village (right)
Religion is very important to the people here. The three main religions are Buddhism, Christianity, and Confucianism. The above Buddhist statue is in Taegu, South Korea. It was built in the effort to pray for the re-unification between North and South Korea. There has been some progress in the year since I have been here, but there is a long road ahead. The Buddhist statue to the right is of a typical statue that you would go to pray at any of the Buddhist temples spread throughout Korea. It is fascinating to sit and listen to the chants of the munks during ceremonies.
