| 60+ Skyline Students To Produce Traditional Holiday Favorite | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Skyline High School Performing Arts Academy will present holiday classic "A Christmas Carol," on December 12 through 15 at the Skyline Theater. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $7.00 at the door, or $5.00 for children 11 and under. Skyline's approximately 40-member cast was chosen from auditions open to all Skyline students. The production also features the efforts of over 20 technical theater students who have been working after school to adapt the set and costumes, originally designed for Mills College, to Skylines requirements. The production is directed by Jan Hunter, Skyline Performing Arts' Co-Director and acting teacher, assisted by students Kaylin LiCausi and Danny Buell. The role of Ebenezer Scrooge will be played by Brandon Diaz. Much of the story line is carried by narrators, played by Christina Denman, Christina Eskridge, Pearline Jones, Megan Kaetzel, Dzi Keita, and Eduardo Sanchez. The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, are portrayed (respectively) by Darcy Shiber-Knowles, Jessica McClure, and Kamiel Zareba. Some other featured actors are Micah Arons as Tiny Tim, Jeremy Kahn as Young Ebenezer Scrooge, Ethan Lavelle as the Ghost of Marley, Kaylan LiCausi as Mrs. Cratchit, Ben Miller-Mills as Fred, Kate Purnell as Mrs. Fezziwig, Aaron Shiber-Knowles as Bob Cratchit, Skylar Saltz as Fran, Sam Schwartz as Mr. Fezziwig, and Carly Violet as Belle. Other members of the large cast include Janielle Bailey, Dorel Baca, Melissa Boatner, Maria Cepeda, Michelle Dong, Katherine Ebrahimi, Tangie Franks, Jessie Godfrey, Jaredt Hunter, Joey Ingram, Alexis Johnson, Miya Jones, Jeremy Kaetzel, Travis Lee, Alexis Pinter, Chris Russell, and Mimi Yang. The technical crew is supervised by Skyline Technical Theater teacher Gary Quinn, with Danny Buell acting as stage manager. The Lighting Designer/Technician is Daniel Kahn, Geoff Branagh is Sound Technician, and Delayne Medhoff is Crew Chief. Running crew for the show will include Jason Benson, Peter Benson, Steve Chamberlin, and Harmony Nelson. The Skyline High School Performing Arts Academy provides integrated performing arts education in drama, dance, instrumental music, vocal music, and technical theater. Students are required to audition for entry into the Academy, and maintain a minimum grade point average as well as meet performance participation and class credit requirements. In addition to serving Academy students, performing arts classes are open to all Skyline students. In the 2001-2002 school year, Skyline offers over 20 different class sections in performing arts, including beginning and advanced drama, three levels of dance, beginning through advanced vocal music, piano, guitar, jazz band, orchestra, marching band, and technical theater. The Skyline Performing Arts 2001-2002 season includes ten productions in the school theater, plus numerous off-campus performances. After "A Christmas Carol," performances include the annual Holiday Concert on December 20, the Winter Dance Concert on January 18-19, a Jazz Band Community Performance at the Dimond Library January 22, "Skyline Showtime," January 25, "South Pacific" April 17-20, the Spring Dance Festival May 15-18, a Vocal Music Concert May 23, and the Spring Concerto Concert May 30. The Skyline Theater is in the last stage of a half-million dollar renovation which over the last two years has given the facility a cosmetic facelift as well as upgraded the electrical distribution, lighting, and sound. The project has been a public-private partnership between the school district and private donors, managed by a committee of the schools PTSA organization. Funding has come from 1974 alumnus Tom Hanks as well as corporate and private foundations and hundreds of individuals, including Skyline alumni, current and former faculty, community and political leaders, and friends. A planned June 1 Gala Reception-Performance will be invitation-only for contributors of $100 or more to the project.
