Dixie was born on May 3, 2003. Which was a Saturday. Dixie is the first foal to be born on the Skylight Ranch. She is no relation to Romeo, but she's still adorable. She was born right in the middle of the day. She was a grey pinto when born but the older she got the darker her spots got. She ended up being the color of her mom a really dark brown pinto.
Dixie had a great advantage when she came out. She was more developed than many foals born. She started nibbling on grass the day she was born. She had teeth before she was a week old. Her hooves already needed to be trimmed, but I waited till she was 2 weeks old. The farrier couldnt believe that she needed her feet done. He said it was the youngest foal he'd ever trimmed. Dixie was so little and so cute. It's a good thing she was little cuz I had to hold her up for trimming. It took a couple of months before she learned she had 3 other feet to stand on. She was a lot of fun to watch when she got spunky. She did her laps and let every one know she was all that and a bag of chocolate.
Romeo took her under his wing and taught her how to be cool and how to get mischevious. I took Dixie and Romeo out for walks pretty often. Dixie was a strange one. She would walk next to Romeo, but if I tied her to her mom, she would sit down like a donkey or try to flip over in protest.
