| It was at this point that the Brig.General Lewis Armistead fell in battle on July 3. It was reported that he was charging the wall about 50 yards ahead of his men. In paintings of scenes from the battle, he's depicted as having his saber raised with his hat atop it. He made it across the wall, as did a few of his men before they were overwhelmed. |
