Skutt SkyHawk Trap is a member of the Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference (ECTC) comprised of approximately 30 schools in eastern Nebraska. There are six annual Divisional shoots taking place in the Omaha area and one Conference Shoot in the Lincoln or Omaha area. At the conclusion of the season, shooters are provided the opportunity to compete in the Nebraska State High School Championship in Doniphan, Nebraska. This two-day event is the largest youth shooting competition in the world, drawing nearly 1,500 shooters each year. Shooters must participate in 5 of the 6 Divisional ECTC Meets in order to qualify for the Conference and State Shoots.
What do I need to have?
Shooters are required to provide their own guns. In general, shooters use a 12 guage shotgun. Any other guage should be discussed with and approved by the coaching staff. In addition, each shooter is responsible for shells, safety glasses, hearing protection and shell bags to catch empty shells. Guns do not have to be a major expense, many of our shooters use shotguns that they are able to borrow from Dad or Grandpa.
What does it cost?
The primary cost of trapshooting is the shells used by the shooters. Dependent on the amount of outside shooting, each shooter will shoot slightly over 100 boxes of shells per season. We have been able to arrange bulk purchases of shells for team members each year. Cost will be around $4.25 per box. In addition, members pay for their targets in the amount of approximately $75.00 per season. Meet fees have been $21.00 per meet.
Can I letter in trapshooting?
Yes, SkyHawk Trap Team members are eligible to earn a Skutt Varisty Letter through participation in trapshooting.
