| On the ground the primary focus was the completion of the whare nui building. These pics show early progress. In December 2000 the foundations and boxing were completed. The concrete base was were poured in January 2001 |
| In 1997 the Okarea Economic Development Plan set out a window of greenfields, land based opportunity based around the marae project development. A wide scope of potential was identified such as farming, horticulture, employment and social ventures such as papakainga housing. With the optimism and enthusiasm of the rangatahi, and the guidance of kaumaatua planning, resourcing, networking and fundraising stepped up in a determined effort to achieve some simple goals. The marae committee worked closely with the whanau trust on the project. |
