Is the war still on?
      I get so sick of people saying forget it, it ended a long time ago.  Just because the war ended when it did why should we give up?  I think that they, the soldiers, have been unfairly demonized and their cause twisted.  Do we not owe them vindication?  If the cause of freedom and a less intrusive government is a good one, and people refuse to concede that cause, than how can anyone say it is over? Still the war rages over this land.  Its weapons are words and the casualties that are inflicted are great in number, both emotionally and in the area of politics.  While I respect the Confederate people and think that they may have made something of their new nation, the final victory does not rest in independence but in the victory of the cause of less government and more freedom.

       In many ways we as southern people, or any others in this nation who share a belief in less government, can be compared to the struggle of the Irish.  The Irish were invaded and conquered and their culture and symbols were attacked.  The Irish are even similar in that they have groups who promote hate, and steal their symbols.  Many would call the IRA a hate group, but they use Irish symbols.  I have never heard anyone say that Ireland should give up its symbols and flags and heroes because some group has hijacked them. The Irish have never given up, and they are now independent.  When the chips are down and everything is blackest, that is when you fight harder, you should never give up a worthy cause just because you have taken a beating.  If it is right then it must be defended.  The great men in history never gave up, never surrendered.  Put yourself in the shoes of William Wallace.  His people were in disarray, and Edward I had, effectively seized power.  Wallace never once said, because we have been defeated  we should give up.  What would have happened if the people of Europe gave up when their governments did, would they not still be under the oppressive thumb of Hitlers Germany?  They refused to give up.  Even if the millitary aid of the United States had never reached them, would it not be wrong for them to ever give up?

       Now I must reiterate, I do not condone any violent action nor secession, also, I am not trying to say that everyone who has a different opinion is a nazi or anything else.  All I am trying to say is, defeat does not mean that a cause was wrong and people should grow a backbone when it comes to these issues.  We as a people must learn every detail about these facts and be able to provide strong, intelligent arguments.  While one person stands to defend a cause, it is not truly dead.  If we hold to the cause in our hearts it can NEVER be taken away.

                                                                  The Irish National Anthem
Amhn Na bhFiann                                                               A Soldiers Song

Sinne Fianna Fil,                                                               Soldiers are we,
At F gheall ag irinn,                                                       whose lives are pledged to Ireland
Buidhean dr sluagh tar rinn do rinig                                 Some have come from a land beyond the wave,
chughainn:                                                                         Sworn to be free,
Fmhodh bherh saor,                                                        no more our ancient sireland
Sean-tr r sinnsear feasta                                                   Shall shelter the despot or the slave;
N fgfar f'n torn n fa'n tril;                                          tonight we man the Bearna Baoghal
Anocht a theigeamh sa bhearna baoghail,                              In Erin's cause.
Le gean ar Gaedh chun bis n saoghail,                              come woe or weal;
Le gunna sgrach: F lamhach na pilar.                               'Mid cannon's roar and rifle's peal
Seo Libh canaidh amhrn na bhFiann.                                   We'll sing a soldier's song.

Seo dhibh a chirde duan oglaidh                                          We'll sing a song, a soldier's song
Caithrimeach, broghmhar, ceolmhar.                                  With cheering, rousing chorus
r dteinte cnmh go buacach tid,                                        As round our blazing fires we thong,
`S an spir go min raltgach.                                              The starry heavens o'er us;
Is fionmhar faobhrach sinn chun gleo                                   Impatient for the coming fight,
'S go tinmhar gl roimh tigheacht do'n l,                            And as we wait the mornings light
Fa cinas chaoimh na h-oidhche ar seol,                                here in the silence of the night
Seo libh, canadh amhrn na bhFiann.                                    We'll sing a soldier's song.

Cois banta ridhe, ar rdaibh slibhe.                                    In valley green or towering crag
Ba bhuadhach r rinnsear romhainn,                                     Our fathers fought before us,
Ag lmhach go tran f'n sr- bhrat sin                               And conquered 'neath the same old flag
T thuas sa ghaoith go seolta;                                              That's floating o'er us,
Ba dhthchas riamh d'r gcine chidh                                   We're children of a fighting race
Gan iompil riar imirt ir,                                                 That never yet has known disgrace,
'Siubhal mar iad i gcoinnibh rmhaid                                    And as we march the foe to face,
Seo libh, canaidh amhrn na bhFiann.                                   We'll sing a soldier's song.

A buidhean nach fann d'fuil Ghaoidheal is Gall                      Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale!
Sinn breacadh lae na saoirse,                                              The Long watched day is breaking;
T sgimhle 's sgannradh gcroidhthibh namhad,                 The serried ranks of Innisfail
Roimh ranngaibh laochra r dtre;                                       Shall set the tyrant quaking.
r dteinte is trith gan sprach anois,                                  Our camp fires now are burning low;
Sin luinne ghl san spir anoir,                                            See in the east a silvery glow,
'S an bodhbha i raon na bpilar agaibh:                               Out yonder waits the saxon foe,
Seo libh, canaidh amhrn na bhFiann.                                  So sing a soldier's song.
