A Little History I listen to a wide variety of music: 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's rock, blues, jazz, and reggae. With the exception of some of the virtuoso rock and heavy metal I listen to, I would have to give my parents credit for exposing me to such a wide range of music early on in my life. When I was little, my parents would play music on the stereo in our living room and we would all dance around and sing. I had a Hawaiian Ukulele that I would use as a tiny guitar and pretend to play along with the music. For my 5th birthday, I got a toy electric guitar. I used to dress up like Bruce Springsteen and pretend to play along to the music video of "Born in the USA". One year for Christmas my dad got me a red Harmony guitar and a tiny "Guitar Buddy" amp. When I was ten, I started taking lessons. For Christmas the next year I got my dream guitar, a 3-tone sunburst Fender Stratocaster with a maple neck, which to this day, is still my main axe. Eventually, I began playing in a band with my father, who played bass, my father's friend Roger, who played keyboards, and Roger's son, Chris, who played drums. We played a wide variety of cover songs and performed once or twice a year. When I was in 8th grade, I met Aisander, who had just moved to Durham. I always thought he was really cool! When he picked up the drums, one thing led to another and eventually, we began what would become Polaris. |
