Avon has been around for decades and is the original �personal rep� skin care company. Instead of selling their products to department stores and other retail outlets that then sell to the public, Avon pioneered the strategy of encouraging individuals (particularly women) to go out and sell to the public (usually their friends). Being an �Avon Lady� was like a cross between a door to door vacuum cleaner salesmen and Tupperware party host. This strategy worked until the 80�s when it all became a stereotype and people stopped responding to this kind of marketing.
Recently, though, Avon has revived its image with a new product line and a big TV marketing budget. They still use the classic sales rep model but have given it a makeover with the advent of the internet. Now you can just buy straight from their website, which has largely diminished the number of product reps since most people prefer not to deal with a middle person if they know what they want.
The new product lines they have are a mixed bag. The Anew line of theirs alone has 5 separate lines within it, making it rather confusing to choose. Upon closer inspection, though, it seems that each line is virtually identical, with just a few differences in wording of the product�s effects. Some (but not all) of the products have ingredient lists posted but they are listed in such a way that a rough estimate of their concentration is impossible to guess. Reviewers have reported mixed results with these products, ranging from no effect to good effects. Some saw breaking out but most reported that the major effect was simply moisturizing. Because this line is not expensive it�s actually not a bad buy for the money, but if you are looking for high-performance products we suggest more clinical anti-aging lines.
