Anti-Aging Rating: 1 out of 5 Overall Impression: Very Poor Review Lab21 debuted around the end of 2002, making a name for itself as being the first and only company to come out with a skincare product that is individually made to work best with your genetic makeup. In order to determine your genetic makeup a customer has to either go to one of their centers (which number around 5 in the entire world) or find a doctor that retails this line who will take the mouth swab and have the sample sent to the Lab21 facility. After a certain period of time they mail you the supposedly custom made formula(s) that they claim are mixed according to what their genetic tests of your DNA find. Want to know more about how it exactly works? So do we, since they offer so little information on how effective this actually is and absolutely no clinical study to back up any claims. How they know what genes relate to what ingredients will work best on your skin is a mystery. Soon after it hit the market CNN and some other news outlets gave Lab21 some attention and asked a number of dermatologists and geneticists what they thought about this development. The vast majority of responses used the term snake oil a lot. So what results have people been getting since it came out in 2002? Were not sure because these products are difficult to come by (no one has contacted us with a review of their personal experiences with this line) and may not even be available any more. Their main website seems to be more focused on diagnostic tools and pharmaceuticals/diseases and makes very little mention of anything related to skin care. Typical Price Range Around $250 for products but exact range is unknown due to limited availability. Website www.Lab21.com Similar Lines None, since no other lines custom formulate products using genetic testing. |
