Our Products
Burke-Agro deals exclusively in dehydrated fruit, grown in the sunny regions of
Nicaragua and produced by women’s working groups. Fresh fruit is purchased
directly from growers, processed for solar dehydration and storage during peak
primary production, and then packaged at the Burke-Agro plant. The final product
is suitable for sale and exportation.
The primary products are :
The varieties of the fruit are selected to insure that they can be further processed
into a tasty balanced food product with high natural nutritional value and a natural
look and feel. The products can be eaten as such as a snack or can be added to
as an ingredient to other products (ie cereal). They are naturally preserved and
have no additives or sugar. The shelf life is a guaranteed six months without
cooling, one year if vacuum packed. Solar dehydration provides an advantage over
conventional electric, spray, gas or freeze methods as it naturally protects the
delicate tastes of these fruits. Moreover, transport and storage costs of
dehydrated products are much lower than for fresh or frozen products.
