12. Technology Design and Management of Learning Environments
12.1 Develop performance tasks that require students to:
  (a) locate and analyze information as well as draw conclusions and
  (b) use a variety of available and appropriate media to communicate results clearly.
Reflection: With the eighth grade Research Project, students were given a list of artists to choose from to base their projects on. They first had to research that artist then create a work in the same style using some of the same inspirations. Students were given one day to work in the computer lab using the internet. Beyond that, I had found magazines on their artists and left them available when the students needed them. They also had full access to the library at any point during their class period. From this research, the students wrote papers with information about the artist's life, education, and what inspires them to create art. This last question was the basis for the projects the students created. They had to use the same medium the artist used, but they could be inspired by different forms. They were able to chose their medium when they chose their artist. Many decided to go with an artist that used a medium they enjoyed using!

12.2 Use computers and other technologies as available to effectively and appropriately collect information on student learning.
Reflection: For the Teacher Work Sample, I was able to use Microsoft Excel to map the students progress from the pre-test to the post-test. I was also able to track their work using this same program. Of course, there are the same websites that I have listed before that I used to help me see what other teachers have done and how their students reacted to a lesson.
12.3 Use computers and other technologies as available to effectively and appropriatley communicate information in a variety of formats on student learning to colleagues, parents, and others.
Reflection: Fortunately for me, everyone that I needed to communicate with this semester had an active email account. I was able to send my journals to my supervisors and cooperating teacher every week. I also send a few letters home to students and parents telling them what we were doing in art class. For example, with the fourth graders, I sent home a letter telling the parents why their students were bringing in "trash" for their Found Object Animal Sculptures. I also sent letters to the sixth graders informing them of the times I would be available for before school work.

12.4 Create physical settings that support active student involvement, inquiry, and collaboration.
Reflection: The classroom is arranged in a way that students have lots of interaction with each other. There are five tables that the students sit at. For every class period, I assign a "Go-Get-It" for each table. That person is in charge of getting the materials for the hour and cleaning up after every class. This provides responsibility for students without having lots of people up and moving around at one time. Another way I encouraged collaboration was in the fourth grade Found Object Animal Sculptures. The students had to work with the members of their table to create the sculptures. They had to come up with the animal and the materials they wanted to use together. This ended up working really well with some groups, and not at all with others.

12.5 Employ technology (where available and appropriate) to organizational and management strategies that support active student involvement, inquiry, and collaboration.
Reflection: For the eighth grade research project, the students were given one class period to work in the computer lab. I was constantly rotating and monitoring their research, but they ended up helping each other find information. I noticed that students were much more willing to ask their friend to help them then they were to ask me for help!
12.6 Utilize available resources including satellite, cable, wireless, and ITFS (Instructional Television Fixed Service) to develop and deliver curriculum.
Reflection: As I said earlier, CVS does "The Morning Show" that is broadcast throughout the school every morning. Some mornings, the background for the anchors were student art from their individual classrooms. I would have loved to have art from my classes up there.
12.7 Select and create learning experiences that are appropriate for curriculum goals, relevant to learners, based upon principles of effective teaching and learning, incorporate the use of media and technology for teaching where appropriate and available, and support learner expression in a variety of media using a variety of media communication tools.
Reflection: I think I have used technology where appropriate and necessary. I have used it in many lessons where it directly affected the students, but in every lesson as an aid to me. I have used it for ideas, support, and/or clarification. I think I have also used many different communication tools in my teaching. If I noticed that someone was not understanding what I was asking of them, I made it a point to approach them and clarify. This is apparent in the videos and evaluations of my teaching.
