What a skater wears should convey the drama, music and art of the program A skaters costumes is an integral part of the
whole of a program. The costumes is part of the set and should enhance the program.

Costumes 101



1. Fine details may not be seen from a distance, or may appear to look like something entirely different than what intended.


2. The costumes should allow freedom of movement.


3. The shape and cut of the costumes should be flattering to the skaters individual figure.


4. You should always practice at least one run through in your costumes before any public performance. This run through
should be observed by someone so as to catch any potential embarrassing costume moments.


5. Keep up on the fashion trends lycra or crushed velvet; beaded or plain; double skirts or empire cut; shiny tights or matte;
over the boot or in the boot. Fashion trends come and go in the skating world just like in the "real" world. It is important a
skaters costumes not be outdated. Fresh and new is a more flattering image than old and outdated.
