[10-11-08 v1.0] Guide is up. Remember, contact me at [email protected] if you spot any errors. I would really appreciate it, and you'll get on the Credits list as well.
[10-11-08 v1.1] Finished nearly 3 badges worth the pages.
[10-21-08 v.1.2] Completed The Rainbow, Soul, and Marsh Badges. Also added easier to use anchors rather than ctrl + F searches.
[10-25-08 v.1.3] Completed The Volcano Badge. Also got rid of the Features section and replaced it with Danni.
[10-26-08 v.2.0] Completed the main game. The first section (and likely only section) in Post Game will be Legendary Pokémon.
[10-31-08 v2.1] Finished the walkthrough. Will start work on the Mini-Dex.

After going through Prof. Oak's speech, you start in your room. Withdraw a Potion from the PC, it will come in handy. Leave your house and walk up to the grass. Oak will stop you and go into battle with a wild Pikachu. After catching it, Oak will take you into his lab where your Rival is waiting. As you try to get the Pokéball, your Rival knocks you aside and snatches it. How rude! Instead, Oak gives you the Pikachu you saw him catch earlier. When you try to leave, your Rival challenges you to a battle. That Potion you hopefully withdrew should be handy.

Forced Battle:
Your Rival

Pokémon:
EEVEE Lv. 5

Reward:
$175

Strategy:
Just Thundershock away. If your health gets low, just use your Potion. Your Pikachu should gain a level upon winning.

After the battle, Pikachu will come out of it's ball and follow you around. Apparently, it doesn't like Pokéballs. If you talk to Pikachu right away, it won't be too happy. It's not your fault, it starts out that way. Now you can leave the lab with your brand-new Pokémon.

Now that you've got your Pokémon, head into the grass of Route 1. Remember: Whatever you encounter, you can't catch, as you haven't got any Pokéballs yet.

Heal up in the Poké Center, even if Pikachu isn't hurt. If you did any battling, regaining that PP is worth it, especially since it doesn't cost any to heal. Then, head to the Poké Mart. The clerk will see you and give you Oak's Parcel to take back to Oak. Then, go back through Route 1 to Pallet Town. (I'm not going over places we've already covered) Head back into Oak's lab and speak with Oak to give him the Parcel. Your Rival makes his entrance. Then, Oak asks a rather large favor of you. You guessed it! Oak then gives you the Pokédex. Head out of the lab to your Rival's house. Talk to Daisy and she'll give you a Town Map. Then, go back to Viridian. Geez, aren't you tired of all this erand running yet? Fortunately for you, that's over for now. Remember, you still can't catch any Pokémon yet. Back in Viridian City, heal if you have to. Then, go fetch some Pokéballs at the Mart. They're pretty cheap, at $200 a piece. You may also want some Potions. I bought 5 Pokéballs and 2 Potions, which should do the trick. Of course, as you try to leave town, the Old Man insists on showing you how to catch Pokémon. After seeing his demonstration, you can finally leave town and head for Viridian Forest. The patch of grass outside is the first place you can catch Nidoran at, by the way.

Route 8 [s.1.opt]

(Okay, I missed Route 8 and now it's too late because your Rival's gone by now. Will this video by FlammingRuby make up for it?)

I'll give you the shortest way through the forest. Head left and then head up, battling the trainer on the way. You can take either path, but head up. Where the paths merge, head up some more. Then head left and up, then left some more. Go down through the grass. Then battle the other trainer and go left and back up again. Then go left and down. After going all the way down, go left and up, battling a trainer on the way. Go through the exit and BAM!, you're out. Route 2 as of now is too small for it's own section, but we'll be going back there later, which is when I'll cover it. Leave that route and step into Pewter City!

More likely than not, your team will have types that are weak to rock and ground. This gym will be a nightmare for your Pikachu, so let it sit on the sidelines this time around. As you can see, I caught and trained a Butterfree specifically for this battle. After dealing with the trainer, time to challenge the leader... (On a random note, I just spoke to my Pikachu, and it's already very happy looking. I guess I'm doing something right...)

Gym Battle:

ONIX Lv. 12

Reward:

(If someone could correct this for me please, I'd appreciate it)
TM34 Bide

Boulder Badge

Strategy:
If you were smart, you raised a Butterfree just for this battle (Or even for later battles, but I don't reccomend it). Just Confusion away. In case it gets hit with some nasty rock attack which I have yet to see from his Pokémon, heal it up with a Potion and keep on hammering. Alternately, even though I said to keep your Pikachu at bay, it does have a use - as long as you have another Pokémon, that is. And not your Butterfree, unless your going to make it Tackle in favor of Confusion. This only works well with Onix. Get Pikachu in and keep Tail Whipping. This should be effective, as Onix uses mostly Bide and Bind. Once Onix's deffenses can't go any lower, start Growling. Then, make a switch in after its attack is all the way down (Or Pikachu fainted). It should be super easy for the following Pokémon to take and deal hits.

We got our first badge! Where to next? Keep on reading...

Go right, step out of Pewter and BAM! (Isn't that fun to say?), you're there. In Route 3. Isn't the route theme awesome? It's all like, adventurous and Pokémon-y. Anyways, keep going right until you reach some trainers. There are so many on this route! That means lots of battling and experience, so I suggest you go for it. Espicially since you get to battle... *drumroll* The Shorts Boy™! Yeah, whatever. Just trying to liven things up a bit. After wiping the floor with all those trainers, keep heading left and up until you reach a Poké Center. You'll probably want to heal. See that cave next to it? That's Mt. Moon! And that's where we're headed.

Alright, inside Mt. Moon. Go up and take a right, battling a lass on the way. You'll be as surprised as I am to find out that the first Pokémon I ran into was a Clefairy! Anyways, go right again, then up until you see a ladder. You can climb down the ladder and follow a path that leads to an HP Up, but that's optional. Go through the break in the rocks at the upper right corner. Go up, then go left past a lass, and when you can't go left any further, go down. Ignore the ladder. Then go left and up, and go down the ladder behind the hiker. There's also a nifty Moon Stone in the upper left corner. Follow the narrow path until you hit a ladder. Go down it. Take the stairs down, and pass the Rocket grunt. Then go up the following stairs. After taking the path down, start going up. Take a right, then go up some more. You'll see a guy and two fossils. When you try to cross paths with him, he'll fight you. Since this is a necessary battle, I may as well record it...

Forced Battle:

Super Nerd

Pokémon:
GRIMER Lv. 12
VOLTORB Lv. 12
KOFFING Lv. 12

Reward:
$300

Strategy:
Psychic-type attacks work well. This battle's pretty easy. If you lost, I'm afraid your Pokémon need more training.

Now you get to choose one of the fossils! It can regenerated into a Pokémon later in the game. The one on the left is the Dome Fossil, which regenerates Kabuto. The one on the right is the Helix Fossil, which holds Omanyte. It's your choice, but if you choose one you can never get the other. I chose the Dome Fossil. Keep going until you reach a ladder. But at the stairs, guess who challenges you to battle? Jessie and James, just known as "Rocket" in the game.

Forced Battle:
Rocket (Jessie and James)

Pokémon:
EKANS Lv. 14
MEOWTH Lv. 14
KOFFING Lv. 14

Reward:
$420

Strategy:
A lot like the last battle, only a bit tougher. Psychic attacks on Ekans and Koffing, Fighting attacks on Meowth. Not that hard if you use the rock in your head.

Alright, now you can go down that god-foresaken ladder! Go up the other ladder and then... BAM!, you're out. On Route 4, to be exact. (My Pikachu was pissed at me for all that walking we did while I couldn't cure it's poison.) Route 4 is pretty strait forward. Just keep going and you'll hit Cerulean City. (Healed mah Pika, it's happy now.)

Alright, we're here. First thing's first. See that house next to the Poké Center? Go inside. You'll see an Oddish, a Sandshrew, and a girl in the back with a Bulbasaur. Speak to her. If Pikachu likes you enough, and you've beaten Misty, she'll give you the Bulbasaur. If it's happy enough, it should have hearts over it's head when you speak to it. If not, don't worry, you've got a good oportunity to make it happy. The gym focuses on water types, so Pikachu can get in plenty of battles and happiness. But first, try to cross the bridge. Your Rival make his entrance and, of course, wants to battle. So here we go.

Forced Battle:
Your Rival

Pokémon:
SPEAROW Lv. 18
SANDSHREW Lv. 15
RATTATA Lv. 15
EEVEE Lv. 17

Reward:
$595

Strategy:
Just hit his Pokémon with types they're weak to and use common sense. That's it, really.

Now, you can head over to Nugget Bridge and train some more if you lack confidence in your Pokémon's levels. You can visit Bill's house too if you want. It'll give you pages on Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon if you look on his PC. He also gives you the S.S. Ticket, which will be important later on. Also, there's a guy up north on Route 24 who will give you Charmander.

Strategy:
For Staryu, give it a status condition and keep wailing on it. Before too long, it'll go down. Starmie, on the other hand, is a tough cookie. Bubblebeam hurts especially for anything its level or below, even if it doesn't deal a super-effective. I reccomend poisoning Starmie and then start wailing on it with a Pokémon you don't mind fainting. It probably won't defeat Starmie and faint. (If it does, that's even better.) Then switch in Pikachu/Bulbasaur/whatever else can deal a super-effective, and hammer it until it faints.

Touchdown! We scored ourselves another badge!

Even though this section is Route 5, we'll start off on leaving Cerulean. Remember that house with Officer Jenny out front? She steps to the side once you've been to Bill's house and beaten Misty. Go into the house and out through the hole in the back. There's a Rocket grunt outside you'll have to battle. I suppose he counts as a forced battle, so I'll list him here.

Hit them, I guess. This battle is too easy. I beat the Drowzee with a Nidorino a level under after 3 Horn Attacks. Mind you, one of them was critical, but...

After beating him, the Rocket gives back the Dig TM. Don't worry, you don't need to give it back to the person. In fact, if you try, he just ignores you. Now just head down the path, take a left, then another down (I'm insulting your intellegence, aren't I?) and BAM!, welcome to Route 5. Keep going down until you find a little house. There's also a gateway to Saffron, but the guard won't let you through yet. All right, so you're in the house. Inside, there are stairs leading to the Underground Tunnel, which will take you to Vermillion. There's also a little girl who will trade her Machoke for your Cubone. Since you don't have Cubone yet, you can't do the trade, but the Machoke will evolve into Machamp, making that the only way to get Machamp without trading. I suggest you come back here for that reason. Anyways, go down the stairs and make a run for Vermillion. Once you emerge from the other house, BAM!, you're in Route 6 now! On your way to Vermillion!

Remember how Cerulean City had Bulbasaur? Well, Vermillion City has Squirtle. However, rather than happiness, you need to have the Thunder Badge to get it. Talk to the Officer Jenny in the middle of town to get Squirtle. It's at level 10. If you walk over to the gym, you'll notice there's a small tree blocking the path. You need to cut it down. You have the ability to use cut from the Cascade Badge, but you don't have the HM to teach it just yet. Don't worry, you'll get it soon enough. Remember when Bill gave you the S.S. Ticket? Go down to the pier. There's a guy down there who will see your ticket and let you through. To where, exactly? The S.S. Anne, of course!

Alright, now you can go into the captain's room. Whoa, look in the trash can! Talk to the captain. After giving him a creepy backrub, he'll give you HM01, Cut. We got what we wanted, lets bust this joint!

Strategy:
Raichu, while it may seem intimidating at first due to it's level, is actually quite a pushover, even if you aren't using ground types. I used my Nidorino to poison it and keep Doublekicking until it fainted, which proved quite effective. Find some way to hinder Raichu's ability, be it status condition or lowered stats, and it's downhill from there.

Route 9 is to the right of Cerulean City. You need Cut to get through. For once, I'll leave the navigation to you, though it isn't that hard. Just remember, whatever you do, keep heading right, and when given a choice, take the lower path. You'll soon reach a Poké Center by a cave. That cave is Rock Tunnel, where we're headed next. You can catch an HM Slave for Flash, but it isn't necessary. It's just difficult to pull off without unless you know EXACTLY where you're going, right down to every step. "Where do I find Flash?", you might ask. In Vermillion City, you need to go right and enter Diglett's Cave. Upon emerging, you will find yourself on the right side of Route 2. Go into the southern tunnel past the tree that requires Cut to find one of Oak's aides. If you have at least 10 species of Pokémon, he'll give you the Flash HM. Now for the Rock Tunnel...

Out of all the dungeons I've given directions for, this one is the most necessary. Mind you, it'll still be difficult without Flash, but bear with me. First, go down a little, then go right. Go down and battle the trainer, as going right leads to a dead end. Then continue down and head right. Go up and go down the ladder. Head down and go left, battling another trainer. Go left, then up when you see the opening and battle the trainer. Continue up and right, then up again, battling the trainer. Go up a little more, then turn right. Head up again and go left past the hiker. Go up. Then take the ladder. Go down, then go right. Then go up past the other trainer and down the ladder. Go left, down a little, and left again. Battle the trainer and keep going left. Go up a smidge and go left past the hiker. Then go up and down the ladder. Go down past the two trainers. Go left past the one trainer. Keep going left, and once you see the sign, go down and take the ladder. Once you've done that, BAM!, you're outside. (Geez, that's starting to become a catchphrase.) Where, exactly? So, just run away. If you talk to the channelor on the second floor, she'll say that you'll need a Silph Scope to unmask them. You're probably wondering where you'll find one, or even what one is. Well, we'll find out soon enough. Time to head out to Route 8.

If you haven't already trained a little here, I'm surprised you beat your Rival. There's of grass and trainers, so it's a great training spot. Anyways, since it kills like, 15 seconds of my life, I'll leave the navigation to you. Bleh, it's easy. Oh, and if you plan on doing the Mew Trick, do NOT fight the gambler. Save him for later and brush up against the house so he doesn't see you. Then again, though, it's not a big deal if you accidentally battle him. There are a few other trainers that work just as well. Anyways, go into the house. It's another Underground Tunnel! After you've done your Tunnel Trek, walk outside and guess where you are? None other than Route 7, right smack next to Celadon!

Take a look at all those Rockets, struting about like they own the place. Or maybe they're about to... *dun dun DUN!* Nah, just kidding. On a side note, go around the back of the Poké Center. Keep going left until you reach the back of the Celadon Mansion. Go through the opening. Keep taking the stairs until you reach the roof top with an odd building. Go inside. There's a man, a chalkboard, and a table with a book and Pokéball on it. If you talk to the man... he spit out a bunch of blabber about trading with friends. If you inspect the chalkboard, it'll give some info on trading. If you read the book, it states the obvious and says there are 50 TMs and 5 HMs. Now for a real treat, and the reason for coming here. Inspect the Pokéball. It's an Eevee! And it's all yours! It comes at Lv. 25 and I named mine NEKO for whatever reason. When evolving your Eevee, remember this: Eevee is a one-off Pokémon. Therefore, if you evolve it into Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon, you cannot get the other two without trading. I'm evolving mine into Vaporeon because there aren't any other water Pokémon I'd like to use. Moving on, then there's the Game Corner. There are some nice Pokémon and items there as prizes. I'm aiming for a Vulpix. Which, by the way, is a Pokémon that can only be obtained this way. You can either blow tons of money on coins or try your hand at the slots. Go talk to the man at the restaurant to get a Coin Case. There's also the Rocket Hideout hidden underneath the Game Corner. First things first: Go to the Rocket Hideout.

(I got a Vulpix! Geez, who knew it was so hard to save up 1,000 coins?)
First go into the Game Corner. Talk to the Rocket in front of the poster. He'll fight you, and here are the details.

Forced Battle:
Rocket

Pokémon:
RATICATE Lv. 20
ZUBAT Lv. 20

Reward:
$600

Strategy:
Fighting on Raticate, Psychic, Electric, or Rock on Zubat. Easy.

Now that the Rocket is out of the way, inspect the poster. To the right, a passageway opened up! Go inside, and you're in the Rocket Hideout! From the entrance, take the stairs down. Make a U-turn, passing the Rocket on the way. Take the stairs down. Go left, and go past the first opening and through the second. You'll be at the slider puzzle. Take the left slider. Then go down and take the right slider. Go back left, then down. Go left again, then down, and take the upper right slider. Go left, battle the Rocket, then go down. Take a right and go up. Take the stairs down. Then go into the upper left room with the Rocket. After battling him, he drops the Lift Key. We'll need this for the elevator. Go back to where you had to make a U-turn, and go to the slider puzzle. Take the lower left slider, then take the upper right slider. Now take another upper right slider. Take the left slider. Go right, down, and take the upper left slider. Then take the right slider. Now exit the puzzle. See that opening in the wall? That's an elevator. Go inside. Now that you have the Lift Key, you can use it. Select B4F. As you emerge from the elevator, Jessie and James attack you again! Time to battle!

  Forced Battle:
Rocket (Jessie & James)

Pokémon:
KOFFING Lv. 25
MEOWTH Lv. 25
EKANS Lv. 25

Reward:
$750

Strategy:
Basically, Psychic on Koffing and Ekans, Fighting on Meowth. The only reason it should be too hard is if you've been worn down by the other Rockets.

After that's over with, enter the room ahead. Guess who? It's Giovanni, the Rocket Boss! If you've been worn down a lot, it wouldn't be a bad idea to run out and heal. Alright, here are the battle details.

Forced Battle:
Giovanni

Pokémon:
ONIX Lv. 25
RHYHORN Lv. 24
PERSIAN Lv. 29

Reward:
$2871

Strategy:
Onix and Rhyhorn, otherwise tough, fall fairly easily to anything super-effective. Persian is obviously the big boss of his team. However, despite it's high level, it's not hard to defeat even without super-effective moves. My Pikachu, Lv. 27, was able to 2HKO Persian with Thunderbolt.

After battling him, what luck! He drops the Silph Scope, just what we had wanted. Those Rockets are all thumbs. Now we can head for the Pokémon Tower! If you take the quick way out by going to B1F using the elevator, you'll be in a room with a sealed off exit and a Rocket grunt. After you battle him, the door opens for no good reason. Either way, find a way out and do so. Now... time to go to Lavender Town! If you really need help getting there again, read the previous sections and do the inverse.

Are you there yet? Good. Time for Pokémon Tower Revisited!

Now that you have the Silph Scope, you can see the wild Pokémon of the Tower! They consist mostly of Gastly, the odd Cubone, and, rarely, Haunter. I'll split this section into subsections, detailing each floor of the Tower (besides the 1st and 2nd floors).

3rd Floor:

Here is where the wild encounters start up, and our Tower Trek begins. The possesed channelers will also battle you. Otherwise, nothing special on this floor. There is an Escape Rope, though.

4th Floor:

Lots of channelers on this floor. Also a lot of medicinal items. They are Elixer, Awakening, and HP Up.

5th Floor:

A few channelers about, but most importantly there's a Healing Square on this floor. Come back to this floor whenever your Pokémon are hurt. There's also a Nugget.

6th Floor:

The Pokémon on this floor are tougher overall, and there's a higher chance of running into Haunter or Cubone. There's also a Rare Candy on the floor. If you approach the stairs, you'll be attacked by Marowak, the ghost of Cubone's mother! Eh, it's not a trainer battle, but it's still a plot important Forced Battle, so...

Forced Battle:
Marowak

Pokémon:
MAROWAK Lv. 30

Reward:
Nothing

Strategy:
The only reason it should be difficult is the level. Try inflicting a status condition to chip it down to size. In case you were wondering, you can't catch it.

Now that Marowak's restless ghost is calmed, you can proceed up the stairs.

7th Floor:

Walk up a few steps, and it's Jessie and James again!

Forced Battle:
Rocket (Jessie & James)

Pokémon:
MEOWTH Lv. 27
ARBOK Lv. 27
WEEZING Lv. 27

Reward:
$810

Strategy:
The same as always, of course. They only gained two levels and two evolved forms, sheesh.

Keep going up, and you'll find this old man at the end. It's that Mr. Fuji you keep hearing about! Using his mad skillz, he makes the screen go black and BAM!, you're at his house. Of course, he wants you to believe he just walked out of the Tower with you. Uh... Nevermind. Talk to Mr. Fuji. He'll give you a Poké Flute. If you ever tried walking west of Celadon, the path is blocked by one of the two Snorlax in the game. Using that Poké Flute, the Snorlax will awaken, attack, and disappear. It's also a handy replacement for Awakened since it can be used in battle to awaken all sleeping Pokémon on the field (including the enemies).

Time to go back to Celadon. Once there, get ready to challenge the gym! You're going to need a Pokémon with Cut.

CHANSEY
TAUROS
KANGASKHAN
PINSIR

And those aren't the only Pokémon worth coming for, either. Now, how to get Surf and Strength. Because Surf and the item required to get Strength are in the Safari Zone, I'll give some directions, despite being fairly easy to navigate. You'll need most of those 500 steps, so be sure not to trail off. First, go up and right from the entrance. Then go up some more. Go right into the next area. Keep going right, then go up the stairs onto the rock platform. From there, go left and down the stairs. Then go left, up, right, then back onto another rock platform. Get off on the other side and head up. Then go left through the grass and out into the next area. Keep heading left until you see an opening in the rocks. Head up the stairs. Stepping off the platform, head up. Then go right and up through the grass. Go left until you reach some grass, then go down. Keep going down, past the Trainer Tips sign, and through the exit. Go past the sign, but before you do, pick up the Gold Teeth below. You'll need it to get Strength. Then go into the building. Talk to the guy and he'll give you the Surf HM. Hooray! Now you can high-tail it out of here or whatever. Now, where the Gold Teeth come in. Go to the Warden's house. Upon talking to him, you'll automatically give his Gold Teeth back. In return, he'll give you HM04, Strength! Inside his house, there's a boulder you can test it out on. After you push it aside, you can get a Rare Candy. Now, you can challenge the gym!

In the newly opened room, you'll find a TM22 on the table. Then go down and pick up the item. It's the Secret Key! Just what we need to open up the Cinnabar Gym. You can use an Escape Rope, or re-flip the switch, then flip the other switch after getting out, then re-taking the stairs, then going up, left, and down, and finally head through the opening. You'll magically appear back where you entered the mansion. That makes absolutely no sense, but it's better than having to totally retrace your steps. Alright, now you can challenge the gym!

In this puzzle, it's less running around and more testing your Pokémon knowledge. I got them wrong on purpose so I could battle the Trainers.

Question #1
CATERPIE evolves into BUTTERFREE?
Correct Answer: Yes
Side Notes: This one could have been more specific. Caterpie evolves into Metapod, then Butterfree. The answer should have been no. Game Freak, Game Freak...

Question #2
There are 9 certified Pokémon League Badges?
Correct Answer: No
Side Notes: None.

Question #3
POLIWAG evolves 3 times?
Correct Answer: No
Side Notes: Poliwag evolves once into Poliwhirl, then twice into Poliwrath.

Question #4
Are thunder moves effective against ground element-type Pokémon?
Correct Answer: No
Side Notes: You can't honestly tell me you got this one wrong on accident.

Question #5
Pokémon of the same kind and level are not identical?
Correct Answer: Yes
Side Notes: It's the movesets that make them different.

Question #6
TM28 contains TOMBSTONER?
Correct Answer: No
Side Notes: There is no such move as "TOMBSTONER", and TM28 contains Dig.

After the 6th question, you can challenge Blaine.

Strategy:
If your Pokémon's levels were about the same as mine, you can't aford to use anything but super-effective moves. Water, Rock, and Ground moves work perfectly. Sleep, paralysis, and confusion also work well.

One last badge to go, then it's the Elite Four!

Alright, the puzzle. Just go up, take the left most upper path, go out the right side, go up and left. You'll attempt to go up, but then a trainer will challenge you and after beating him, he'll be blocking the path. You can either exit and re-enter the gym, then go back to the trainer was, or go back and around the trainer. Either way, keep going left and there is the gym leader. Doesn't he look familiar? No? Oh wait, his overworld sprite isn't different. Well, just talk to him and you'll see. ...Wait, his name is in the section title. Oops.

Strategy:
This battle is the most annoying one yet for me. I must have tried at least seven times before beating him. Of course, a lot of what helped me win was when my Clefable Metronomed Surf on Nidoqueen. Surf's up! Anyways, Ice Beam and Surf work wonders, so Lapras would be a good choice. Just watch out for Rock Slide and Thunder. For some reason, Thunder almost always hits when Nidoking or Nidoqueen use it. Rhydon falls easily to Water and Grass types, and he has no good counters for them, so those are good choices. Dugtrio will be at the mercy of any Flying Pokémon, since it often wastes Fissures, Earthquakes, and Digs on them. Persian's the odd ball out of the bunch, but most things work well on it.

Holy crap Batman! We just earned the final badge! It wasn't too long ago when I first started this Walkthrough, either. After you do a little happy dance, read on to find out how to reach the part we've all been waiting for: The Pokémon League!

Strategy:
You know the drill. Use super-effective types where you can.

Just keep going and head into the building. The first police officer will check for your Bouldber Badge. Outside, another officier will check for your Cascade Badge. Follow the checkered path until you reach another officer who will check your Thunder Badge. Keep going until the checkered path ends and another officer stands up ahead. He'll see your Rainbow Badge. Surf up until you reach a swimming police officer who doesn't look like a police officer. He'll check for the Soul Badge. Up ahead, there's another police officer like him who will check for your Marsh Badge. Keep going until you reach land. This place isn't to bad of a training spot. Plus, I know technically we're on Route 23 now, but I'm just grouping it in with Route 22 for convenience. Keep going up, passing an officer who checks for the Volcano Badge. Keep heading up and you should run into the last officer, who checks for the Earth Badge, the one we just won. Head inside and you'll be in Victory Road.

(Just so you know, you may want higher leveled Pokémon than mine.)
You'll need a Pokémon with Strength. See that boulder near the entrance? Push it down once, right four times, up twice, right seven times, up twice, right once, and down once, right on the target. Then go back near the entrance and take the stairs up onto the rock platform. Then go up until it splits into two paths. Take the left path with the Cooltrainer Female. Then go down, left a little, and back up. Climb up the ladder. From there, go down. There's another boulder. Push it down once, left once, down once, and left twice. The stuff that was blocking the path on the rock platform is gone now. Go up onto it and head right. See that bird on the upper part of the screen? That's Moltres. Don't talk to it just yet if you reach him unless you came prepared to catch him. No worries, I'll cover him later. Just keep heading right, then down, then get off the platform. Go right, then up, then around the platform and climb up the ladder. See the boulder? Push it up twice, then left sixteen times, down once, left four times, down three times, and right once. Get onto the rock platform that was near the boulder. Go all the way across and get off. Then head right pass the two trainers and go through the opening. Keep going right until you see a boulder and a hole. Push the boulder down the hole, then go down yourself. You'll land right next to the boulder you just pushed down, so push it left fourteen times and it'll hit the target. Now go up on the rock platform and keep going right until you reach the ladder. Climb it. Then go up and go down another ladder. Go right and you'll be out! Make your way through the statues and reach The Pokémon League! First, you'll want to stock up on things such as Hyper Potions, Revives, and Full Heals. I sure hope you picked up some money by battling trainers in Victory Road! If you're Pokémon have about the same levels as mine, you may want to train them a little more. That, or stock up on tons of Revives. Now we can head into Lorelei's room, first of the Elite Four!

Strategy:
When this battle comes to mind, I usually think mostly of what not to use, since there are little things that are truly effective. Most things that can get Ice type Pokémon are weak to Water, so that's no good. In fact, you're better off by treating this like a Water type battle. So, I would suggest using Grass and Electric moves unless it's Jynx, then you can use convensional Ice killing types such as Fire.

His Onix fall to Grass, Water, Ground, and Fighting pretty easily. Flying Pokémon are best against his Fighting types, although Psychic types could work well too. The only set back is their low defenses. Speaking of stats, their low specials make his Pokémon very weak to any special attacks, so anything from that department could work. Otherwise, I had an easier time with him than I did Lorelei, as I didn't even have to heal afterwards.

Remember, this isn't Advance and beyond. There are no abilities, so Ground is your best bet against the likes of Haunter and Gengar. Also works good against Arbok. Electric types are best against Gyarados, but keep in mind how fragile Pikachu is if you're going to use it. The Dragonairs fall to most things, as I was able to get away with using Flamethrower to 4HKO one of them. Ice, obviously, is your best bet for Dragonite. Aerodactyl is argueably the most annoying Pokémon in his line up. Use Water types and hope for the best. By the way, it's a common misconception that Aerodactyl is immune to Electric attacks. They are neutral on it.

You start back in front of your house. From here, there are still some things you can do. The Unknown Dungeon can now be explored and Mewtwo caught. Then there's the ever present task of catching them all. Or, you could train your Pokémon to the max and try battling competitively, if you have the luxury of friends with 1st Gen games, or even any Pokémon games at all. Well, I can't help with the latter. However, I can help with the rest. I'll be covering all the Legendaries, including Mewtwo and the Unknown Dungeon, and after I've done that, I'll start work on the Mini-Dex. Well? What are you waiting for? You've gotten this far, we've got a game to complete!

  Legendary Pokémon [p.1.1]

  Articuno [p.1.2]
ARTICUNO
* * * * * * _ _  _ _ _ _  _

Surf to the Seafoam Islands from Fuchsia. Inside the cavern, go left. You'll see a boulder and a hole. Using Strength, push the boulder down the hole. Then go back and get on the rock platform. Go up and right, then get off. Push the boulder you see down the hole like the last. Climb down the ladder. Then knock another boulder down another hole and go back up. Get back on the rock platform and go down the ladder. Get off, go up, and go down the ladder. Go left and down the hole. Get on the upper right rock platform and go up the ladder. Go up another ladder. Then go down and push a boulder down the hole. Then go back down both ladders. Go left and down, then go up another ladder. Go all the way down, then off the platform. There should be three boulders and a hole. If you step to the left a little, you'll see another boulder and another hole on the other side. First, push the boulder blocking the way to the other hole. Then, see the two boulders side by side? Push the one on the right all the way up. Then push the left boulder down once, left twice, and down once into the hole. Then go through the opening in the rocks and push the boulder by the hole down into it. Then go down the hole yourself. Surf up until you land on the platform with the bird. Time to battle!

Legendary Battle:
Articuno

Pokémon:
ARTICUNO Lv. 50

Reward:
Nothing

Strategy:
Obviously, you want to capture this one, not faint it. If you know what's good for you, save beforehand. Don't waste your time with anything lower than Ultra Balls unless you simply can't aford them, but don't use your Master Ball either. Try inflicting a status condition that doesn't harm the Pokémon, like Sleep or Paralysis, and just chip away at it's health, as it has no way of recovering it. Some healing items for your own Pokémon might not be a bad idea, especially if your Pokémon are more than 10 levels below Articuno's. If you're curious, something really funny happened to me. The first time around, I used nearly all my Pokéballs, and all of them missed. Not broke out, missed. And Articuno was paralyzed with a sliver of health! Then the second time, Articuno was asleep with just slightly more health than last time, and the first Ultra Ball I threw caught it! Weird.

 Zapdos [p.1.3]
ZAPDOS
* * * * * * _ _  _ _ _ _  _

Go to the Power Plant by Surfing south of Rock Tunnel. Inside, go up until you can't go up any further. Then go right a little and down into the second to last room from the south. Go right all the way. Then go up, left, and up, not through the opening but through the hallway. Then go left, down, left again, and up. Go left and down until you see a bird. Talk to it and battle Zapdos!

Legendary Battle:
Zapdos

Pokémon:
ZAPDOS Lv. 50

Reward:
Nothing

Strategy:
The same that applied to Articuno, really. Using a Ground Pokémon to absorb its Electric attacks and wittle away its health would be a good idea.

 Moltres [p.1.4]
MOLTRES
* * * * * * _ _  _ _ _ _  _

Head to Victory Road. In the Victory Road section, get to the part where it says, "Push it up twice, then left sixteen times, down once, left four times, down three times, and right once." Instead, go down the ladder nearby. Go right until you see Moltres!

Legendary Battle:
Moltres

Pokémon:
MOLTRES Lv. 50

Reward:
Nothing

Strategy:
Pretty much as the same as Articuno and Zapdos.

Well, now you've caught all three legendary birds. Now, time for the big game, Mewtwo!

 Mewtwo [p.1.5]
MEWTWO
* * * * * * * *  ~ ~ ~ ~  +

Fly to Cerulean and cross the Nugget Bridge. See the body of water? Surf on it until you find a cave. If you've come here too early, there will be a man blocking the entrance. There shouldn't be if you've beaten the Champion, so just head on in. Go to the body of water and Surf. Go all the way left and get off. Go up the ladder.  Go up through the southern right path. Take the upper path and go up, right, and down. Go right and down. Then go back up and take the ladder. Go left, then down, and take the ladder you see. Go up and take the bottom most path. At the very end, take the ladder down. Go through the upper most path and when it forks, take the upper most path to the ladder. Climb it. Go down. Of the two paths, take whichever one you want, as they both lead back to the same place. Go up and take the ladder. From there, go down another ladder. Head up and on the right path and when it forks, go down. Face the water and Surf. Go right, up, and get off. Go up, onto a rock platform, off the rock platform, and down. Out of the corner of your screen, you can see a Pokémon. We're getting close! Anyways, face the water and Surf. Go around and surface on the platform with the Pokémon. Save beforehand, and battle with Mewtwo!

Legendary Battle:
Mewtwo

Pokémon:
MEWTWO Lv. 70

Reward:
Nothing

Strategy:
This is the thing to use your Master Ball on. I guess, if you really don't want to, you could save it for Mew. But despite being the legendary, it only comes at Lv. 7 via the trick. So if you don't want to use your Master Ball, be prepared with at least 50 Ultra Balls, if you can aford all that.

 Mew [p.1.6]
MEW
* _ _ _ _ _ _ _  _ _ _ _  _

There are 2 methods of obtaining Mew, not including Gameshark. One wasn't intended by the creators, and the other isn't exactly pratical. You can either a) Use The Mew Trick, or b) go to a Nintendo event that hands out Mew. The latter is impossible now that they aren't doing it anymore, so a) it is. Follow these steps precisely to ensure your success:

1) Find a Trainer that just borders the edge of the screen, such as the guy in the grass on Route 24 or the gambler on Route 8 by the Underground Tunnel. If you've fought all the Trainers, you may have to start over to get this trick to work.

2) Found a Trainer you like? Good. Now get ready to hit your start button and step in front of the Trainer. As you step, hit the start button. Save first in case you mess up. If successful, the start menu will pop up before the Trainer gets to challenge you. If not, shut off and try again. ...You did save, right? Because this will take quite a few tries to master. Admittedly, I was able to do it on my first try. I just have an itchy trigger finger, I guess.

3) Once successful, make sure you have a Pokémon with you that knows Fly or Teleport. Use it now and Fly/Teleport to Cerulean. Your start button won't work. Don't worry, that's normal.

4) Now find and battle this youngster on Route 25. Beat his Slowpoke and your start button will work again. Make sure you hug the wall and make him walk all the way up to you, otherwise your game will crash.

5) Go back to the route with the Trainer you flew away from.

6) As soon as you step foot in the route, the start menu will pop up without warning. DO NOT SAVE. Smack it down to be thrust into battle with a Lv. 7 Mew.

Wild Battle:
Mew

Pokémon:
MEW Lv. 7

Reward:
Nothing

Strategy:
Don't use very powerful Pokémon on it, you might faint it. BUT, don't underestimate its ability to break out of your Poké Balls. Still use Ultra Balls, and use the usual strategies to capture a legendary.

OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODTHATWASTHEAWESOMESTTHINGEVERDEARLORDDEARLORD That was just magical. I'm still shaking with excitement, no exaggeration.
