You feel good about joining forces with Ffloyd.
You trust him as you could never trust Viktorov.
And besides, you like his plan: Tonight he will give
the signal for the freed slaves to revolt. Just to be
sure the Omicron Masters don't interfere, Ffloyd
will create a diversion by setting loose as many of
the caged animals as possible.
Before you set out, Ffloyd opens an ornately
carved wooden chest and removes from it two
sheaths. Inside each are several dozen darts.
"Careful now," Ffloyd says. "These darts are
tipped with a substance I obtained from the posion
sacs of the stonefish. It renders humans almost
instantly unconscious."
At dark, the two of you climb down the massive
tree trunk and start out for the Omicron Base.
Sometime after midnight you arrive at the ani-
mal pens. These lie between the airfield and a
number of warehouses. On the other side of the
warehouses is the village where the Omicron
slaves live; beyond that lie farmlands.
The animal pens are surrounded by a fifteen-
foot-high steel mech fence, with gates on both
sides. A guard patrols each gate.
Stealthily you and Ffloyd approach the guards,
crawling on your stomachs through the thick grass.
Then you take one of the darts, and at a hand
signal from Ffloyd, you hurl it at the guard farthest
from you. The instant it hits, Ffloyd delivers a
sharp blow to the back of his neck. Both guards
crumple to the ground, unconscious.
