"All right," Ling says nervously, "we must plan
before we act. Therefore we must look at my
map." She spreads out a tissue-thin plastic-coated
map." "There are two ways, I believe, that give us
hope of escape. Here" -- she points to the sustem
of ventilation pipes -- "these seem to have a
number of exits above ground. Or here." She
points to the underground factory. "The factory
should be deserted at this hour, and there is an exit
from it that we might use. We may also find infor-
mation or equipment that will further each of our
missions." She pauses a moment, then stares in-
tently into your eyes. "It is important that you
know your fate if we are caught. You have seen the
helmets many wear?" You nod yes. "These make
the wearers slaves of the Omicron Masters. Orders
to the slaves are transmitted electronically to their
helmets. To wear them is worse than death."
