The factory, which is about ten miles west of the
cells, is reached by a kind of subway. Using Ling's
map, you both race to the nearest station. What
you find there is a teardrop-shaped plastic car that
is magnetically suspended a few inches above the
metal floor. Ling presses a button and the door
swings open. The two of you step inside; when
you are seated in comfortable bucket seats, the
door swings shut. There are severl buttons in
front of you. You quickly find the red one that
reads FACTORY. But you can't help but notice the
green one that reads LABORATORY.
"Ling," you say, "I wonder if it's not important
to both of our missions for us to check out the
labs."
"That may be a good idea," she says. "And I do
have a camera." From a hidden pocket she pro-
duces a small black object the size of a thimble.
"On the other hand, it may be safer to go on
directly to the factory. What do you think?"
