The Ollie
The Ollie is in my opinion the most esential trick in skateboarding. It is a very basic trick but takes a lot of practice to learn. To do an ollie:
- Put your front foot about two or three inches behind the front truck bolts.
- Put your back foot on the edge of the tail.
- Get up on just your toes and bend down.
- Smack down the tail
- Slide your front foot forward to level out the board.
- While sliding you front forward, lift up your back foot to help level out.
- Now your in the air and its time to land.
- When you hit the ground you'll know that you leveld out properly if you land with all four wheels at once.
- Bend your knees to absorb the impact.
- Roll away.(Hint: When sliding your foot at the beginning, jump foward while you do it, it helps a lot)
Pop Shove-it
The Pop Shove-it is a very impressive trick that takes a lot of work to get it right. To do a Pop Shove-it:
- Get into ollie position.
- Angle your front foot about 45 degrees foward.
- Crouch down and begin your jump.
- As you start to leave the ground, kick your front foot out in front of you and kick your back foot back.
- This movement is what gets the board spinning. It will take a while to figure out how much to kick your front and back feet around.
- Next, Try to catch the board under you with your feet. I catch with my front foot first, but my friend catches with his back foot first. It doesn't matter how you catch it.
- After you catch the board the hard part is over. Now, Just put your other foot on and push them down back to the ground.
- Roll Away.
Kickflip
The kickflip is a really advanced trick and takes a long time to get right. To do a kickflip:
- Put your feet in ollie position. Angle you front foot about 25 degrees.
- Bend down and start your ollie.
- When you slide your front foot foward kick it off the side of the nose. This will cause the board to flip.
- Lift up your back foot so your board can flip.
- Watch the board flip and try to catch it underneath of you.
- On this trick it is best to catch with your back foot.
- Land and Roll away.
Heelflip
The Heelflip is a great trick and is a great trick to know how to do. To do a heelflip:
- Put your front in the middle of your board with your toes hanging off the side. Place your back foot about in the same position for an ollie.
- Start your ollie, and slide your front foot off and kick out with your heel. The board should start to flip.
- Watch the board rotate underneath of you and catch it with your back foot.
- Land and Roll away. (Hint: DO NOT dip your head in and look down untill you are in the air or the board will end up behind you)
50-50
Time to learn a grind. The 50-50 grind is one of the most basic kinds of grinds and is a building block for many others. To do a 50-50:
- Find a rail or waxed curb or something to grind.
- Roll at a moderate speed and face the rail.
- Ollie and try to land on top of the rail.
- Lock both truck on to the rail and keep your balance while you grind.
- When you get to the end do a small manual to get off.
- Land and Roll away.
Boardslide
The Boardslide is another very improtant lip/rail trick to know. Once you know how to 50-50 and boardslide you are ready to move on to combinations and variations of the two. To do a boardslide:
- Find a good rail. Should be big enough so that when you set your board on top the wheels won't touch the ground.
- roll at a moderate speed, your back turn to the rail.
- ollie 90 degrees so the center of your board is on the rail.
- lean foward and let your board slide on the rail.
- when you reach the end, kick your front foot foward so you land straight and roll away.
Noseslide
The noselide is a trick that is difficult to learn but is really impressive. To do a noseslide:
- Ride up to a rail or curb or something grindable.
- Ollie up and turn the board and your body 90 degrees toward the obstacle.
- Try to land the nose of your board on the rail.
