Photographers Guild was conceived with a vision of strengthening the unity within the photographic community of SJSU. With that in mind we focus on holding group events help us to promote artistic growth within individual members as well as to up our collective artistic worth.

With the help of Patience Young of Stanford University, we have a pleasure to pay semesterly visits to the photo archives at the Cantor Center of the Arts. In the past we have had a thrill of seeing such spectacular specimens of photographic history as Henry Fox Talbot’s leaf prints from the Pencil of Nature series, Eadweard Muybridges locomotion studies, Eugene Smiths civil war images and many more monumental images from such photographers as Adams and Steichen. These field trips provide our members a unique opportunity to view world famous images in a more personal manner: live, without glass.

As a group of visual artists, we enjoy working on themed exhibits and presenting them at various venues. In the past our gallery shows have included themes such as Self and Our Home: San Jose. This semester we have a privilege of presenting a show during the Earth Day celebration on April 20th on the SJSU campus grounds. We are always looking for alternative venues for our show, please contact us if you are interested in working with us on putting together an art exhibit.

Knowing that the best-qualified advice can come only from practicing professionals, we invite commercial and fine art photographers to give talks at our meeting. During such open discussions we learn of various ways one can make a living in the world of photography as well as many technical tricks-of-the-trade, which would have eluded us otherwise.

Along with that we hold movie nights, field trips to local galleries and workshops. Please contact us for information regarding any of the above or if you have any activities that oyu would like to coordinate with us.
