MONDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2005 Well we have just arrived home from Hyden after the final round of the WA Off Road Racing Championships for 2005. It was a mixed weekend for us as we finished the first two races but broke a steering arm in the final race and were unable to complete the event. We finished the first race third in Class 4 after having some minor trouble when we managed to tear off both front shockies and lost a spring off the carbies. This left us with a car that wouldn't drop below about 4000 rpm along with a fairly bouncy front end as we were running on torsion bars only. We fixed the carbie overnight but had to start race two with no front shock absorbers which made for a rough 120km. We nursed the car through the race and managed to finish 1st in Class which was a great result as it secured us the Class 4 State Championships for 2005 as our nearest rival was unable to complete the race. We started race three but 20km in the front end finally gave in when a steering arm was torn from the steering rack leaving us with no steering. So a mixed weekend with not completing the event but managing to wrap up the state title was a great compensation.

MONDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2005 Yesterday the baja went for a test run in preparation for this weekends race out at Hyden. It all went vey smoothly with no real problems encountered. All we did was adjust the ignition timing and brake bias so the car is looking to be in good shape for Round 5 of the WA Off Road Championships. We loaded the car back onto the trailer and it will now stay there until we leave for Hyden on Friday. Hopefully we can achieve a good result so check out the website next Monday to see how we went.

SATURDAY 10 SEPTEMBER 2005 We have the gearbox back into the car and have repacked the CV's and got them into place. With two weeks left to Hyden all looks well with the engine ready to go in and a new custom made accelerator cable to be used we are improving the car little by little. I suppose that is the only way when you race on a smaller budget. We are looking forward to Hyden and go in with a chance of becoming WA Class 4 Off Road Champions if we do well. Check out the pointscores above.

TUESDAY 30 AUGUST 2005 The gearbox has been repaired, a nice easy job as we had only broken the selector link bracket. The gearbox and engine are ready to go back into the car with only the accelerator cable needing any repair work before the next event at Hyden (24-26 Sep 2005). The rest of the preparation will be maintanence so all up it is looking good for the Event. Check the links above to see how we are going in the WA Championships and WAORRA Championships.

MONDAY 22 AUGUST 2005 Last weekend saw the running of the Mogumber 250 which is round 4 of the WA Off Road Racing Championships. We went to the event with high hopes and after a reasonable prologue we started out in Race one. Unfortunately near the end of the first lap we had gearbox trouble which left us with only 3rd and 4th gear and unable to continue. This bought a premature end to our weekend but that's racing.

FRIDAY 5 AUGUST 2005 The Baja is at Southside Smash Repair getting the front passenger guard put back together and a few other dents are being taken care of. The front shockies have been fixed and a new starter motor has been installed (hopefully no push starts now for Mogumber). With only a few minor things to fix once we get the car back we are looking forward to the next race up at Mogumber (19-21 August).

MONDAY 11 JULY 2005 Well just back from the Jaspals Transport Yearlering 250 after a great weekend. The track was very tight and twisty in sections and fairly wet to go with it which proved to be hard work over the distance of the race. We arrived Friday with all in order but just before race time on Saturday developed a problem with the alternator. We managed to find a replacement on a local farm (who knows how long it had been in the shed there) which got us out of lot of trouble and ran perfectly throughout the race. The prologue proved uneventful as did Saturday's portion of the event with the car running well finishing the day 13th Outright (27 entrants) and 1st in Class. After a quick adjustment of the accelerator cable and a wash we put the car to bed ready for Sunday. Sunday proved a little more eventful however when during lap 3 of 7 laps we managed to clip a tree in the tight, twisty stuff (watch out for those deep ruts those Class 1 buggies make when you drive a little baja) and ripped of the front passenger guard. Things got more intersting with one and half laps remaining when we snapped a shockie bolt on the front passengers side and the acclerator cable slipped limiting the power we could get down. The baja soldiered on though to the finish line to reach the chequred flag in 10th Outright and 1st in Class 4. A great effort.
