| SATURDAY 25 AUGUST 2007 Belated news from the 2007 Trewhella Transport/Hertz Mogumber 240 which was held two weekends ago. We arrived Friday night and set up camp in the dark and the wet, mangaing to catch up with a few people along the way. After scrutineering and recon on Saturday morning we completed an eventful prologue in 4 mins 15.95 seconds which placed us 19th outright (32 car field) and fourth in Class (5 cars). Unfortunately we hit a marker during the prologue which saw us receive a 5 minute penalty that would be added to our race time. Section one Saturday afternoon saw Mal at the wheel and he put in four quick consistent times, all between 21 minutes 5 seconds and 21 minutes 31 seconds. With the five minute penalty added we finished the section in 1 hour 30 minutes and nine seconds which saw us sitting 12th outright and second in class. The car ran really well with the only problems being a lack of rear brakes as the section progressed and a noisy gearbox. After a little tender care and bleeding the brakes we put the car to rest ready for Section 2 on Sunday morning. Nice and early Sunday morning (8.30am) saw us get underway for section 2. The first two laps of the setion saw us record times under 21 minutes as we moved up the field to be sitting around 5th or sixth outright. During the third lap we developed fuel pump problems which progressively got worse as the race continued. We managed to complete the event but over the next four laps our times got progessively slower. The brake problem also resurfaced and the gearbox was extremely noisy by the end of the race. We mangaed to get the car home tenth outright and fourth in Class. So it was a mixed weekend, finishing the event but with a faltering car it could have been much better. We have already taken the gearbox out of the car to be overhualed by Colin Doney. Alf at Rockingham Fleet Services has also rewired the fuel pump and the associated relays. This weekend will see a new turning brake go into the car, we think this is the cause of our brake problems. So with five weeks to Hyden all is looking good for the next event. A special thanks to all our sponsors, along with all those involved in running the event. It was a great track and nice to race with no dust issues. Also well done to Darren Russell in his blue commodore who finished the event second in class. |
