"Freshman Class" Adds New Vision, Diversity and Experience to

Centre City Development Corporation

SAN DIEGO, June 1- As the effort to grow and revitalize downtown continues, the Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC) has strengthened its team to handle the increased number of projects. Project managers, a financial analyst, planners, and a communications manager have come aboard to help oversee the record number of projects on CCDC's "to-do" list.

"There is great interest in downtown development today," said Peter Hall, CCDC President. "The current economic climate has provided increased opportunities to realize carefully planned redevelopment activity throughout this 1,500-acre area, just as interest in the enhanced lifestyle offered downtown in growing"

Over the next 36 months, CCDC's current  list of 80-plus projects could produce one million square feet of commercial retail space, 2, 500 apartments and condos, 4,000 hotel rooms, the 42,000-seat ballpark, waterfront improvements and more.

According to Hall, the addition of new hotels, offices, commercial space, residential units and the ballpark will further demonstrate that downtown is a wonderful, vibrant place to live, work and have fun. "CCDC's 'freshman class' will help existing staff bring these projects, and others to come, to fruition," he said. The new staff members are as follows:

Eli Sanchez
, a Senior Project Manager, brings eleven years of experience in municipal government, with an emphasis in the areas of land use law, community development and redevelopment, to CCDC.  Five of the past eleven years were spent as  redevelopment director for the City of Oceanside. Eli managed a diverse portfolio of development projects including the 100,000 -square-foot DDR OliverMcMillan Ocean Place entertainment center anchored by a 16-screen movie theater; a 36-unit, single family subdivision; Doug Manchester's proposed $200 million Oceanside Beach Resort and Golf Club; as well as various public infrastructure enhancement projects. At CCDC, he focuses on redevelopment projects in the Little Italy neighborhood, as well as the historic Balboa Theatre in Horton Plaza and the East Village Entertainment Center.

Alexandra Elias, AICP, was hired in January as an Associate Planner.  Prior to coming to CCDC, Alex worked in and around federal, state and local government for seven years, during which time she completed a White House internship with the Bush administration. Most recently, Alex spent two and a half years in the County of San Diego's Department of Planning and Land Use processing development  permits and subdivisions and working on the update of the County's General Plan. Her primary CCDC responsibilities will include The Bay to Park Link, the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan, and assessing downtown parking needs. Alex sits on the boards of directors for the American Planning Association (APA) and the Council of Design Professionals. She holds degrees in Political Science and French Literature from  the University of Iowa and a Master's degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
