                                               Kurunegala is the main city of North Western Province that called in early days as "Hasthishylapura" the kingdom of glorious and prosperity. The city is surrounded by 7 range of mountains such as "Ethugala", "Andagala", "Ibbagala", "Kuruminiyagala", "Yaddessagala" and "Wanduragala" which gives a prestigious look.

                                                        According to the history our school declarely opened on 16 - 01 - 1974 in the splendid land of "Ethugala" plain covered by the palace of Hon. Bishop Lakdas De Mel. At the out set it was called as "Bandaranayake Vidyalaya" Opened by the collaboration of Hon. Piyadasa Wijesinhe member of the parliament. Main objective of establishment of our school was to avoid the high density of student population and the entrance competition of popular schools and to provide more opportunities to rural younger generation.

                                                        It was commenced by 6 of teaching staff and 14 students. But now increased the strength of   teaching staff into 175 and 4600 students. Now it is reached to the largest school of in the North Western Province.

                                                        Our school is successfully maintained the high quality of educational level. And it is implemented a zonal system specially introduced by management team of school to increase the effectiveness and efficiency administration structure establish with 8 control units. Main stream has decentralized such as educational development, extra curricular activities, teachers and students welfare, well behave and to conduct disciplinary matters through this systematic way of delivery productive and efficient services.

                                                        Although we have provided to a great extent of  teaching facilities for Buddhist students, and maintain education facilities for other religious as Christian and Islamic at a satisfactory level. But it looks active participation to the Buddhist environment in every annual festivals of Vesak and Poson full moon poya days our school is eliminated with Vesak lanterns and religious ceremonies such as dana and sil campaigns.

                                                         There are 30 teaching staff and nearly 1000 students are in primary section. Teaching staff of primary section has extreme experience in implementing of new educational reforms. This section has a beautiful children garden and fantastic environment. Special Education Unit also included in the primary section from year 1 to year 5 such as disable students such as disable with audio, mental and multi disabilities. This unit is properly used the teaching techniques such as signals and symbols.

                                                          In the medium educational unit is comprised with classes between year 6 and year 11. The most of students and teachers are involved in this section. In addition to the educational activities it can be seen very high participation in extra curricular activities.

                                                          Senior section is comprised with 3 major streams such as  Science, Commerce and Arts. There are 800 students are learning in this section. This section organizes annual Arts festival, Commerce day and Science day with the keynote address by veteran scholars.

                                                           Learning of languages and literature helps our students to developing interest of performs arts, writing skills, reading abilities and thinking strenth. Annually publishes the "Aloka" magazines by the collective effort of all students' contribution with plenty of creations. Our students are exhibited excellent performing at all island level in Sinhala and English (Language and Literature), Aesthetic and Sports. To upgrade the skills in sports we are annually organized inter house sportmeet.

                                                            When we review the 27 years time period of our school we can highly satisfied with the marverllous development in several ways. If the most of schools has spent more time to create a tradition of their own, Our school is achieving this target with in a shorter period than others.
