• 16^th of January our school has declarely opened by the name of "Bandaranayaka Vidyalaya". (in memory of Sri Lanka's 4^th prime Minister the Hon. S. W. R. D. Bandaranayake.)

• Our 1^st Principal was Mr. H. M. A. Premarathna Hitinayake.

• 1977
• 8^th of October Mr. S. B. R. J. B. Gannoruwa assigned his duties as 2^nd principal.

• Name of our school  has changed as "Janadhipathi Vidyalaya" and developed as model primary school.

• 1981
• Opened a two stories building for primary section.

• Taken necessary action to conduct classes up to G. C. E. O/L.

• 1984
• 16^th of July Mr. K. M. A. Kulathunga has appointed as 3^rd principal.

• Built 5 buildings collaboration with School Development Society.

• 1986
• Our school name has changed as Sir John Kothalawala Maha Vidyalaya.(in memory of Sri Lanka's 3^rd prime Minister Sir John Kothalawala.)

• 31^th of July opened Buddhist Shrine Room and Laboratory for Advanced Level.

• Upgraded the school into a 1AB Grade.

• 1988
• 26^th of March provided water facilities and telephone facilities, built an office building, three stories building, play ground and a parapet wall.

• 1990
• 04^th of June opened our school Library.

• 1991
• Started Special Education Unit.

• 16^th of October opened the Dental Clinic Room.

• 1992
• 10^th of February declarely opened the building for Advanced Level Arts and Commerce Sections.

• 1993
• Mr. B. S. Sikurajapathi has appointed as the principal for short period.

• 30^th of April Mr. M. S. B. Senewirathna assigned his duties as our 5^th principal.

• 1995
• 04^th of April appointed Mr. J. Rathnayake as principal and he is our present principal.

• 1999
• 19^th of November converted the oldest building as fully completed Assembly Hall.

• Built new three stories building with a laboratory and volleyball court.

• Celebrated "Silver Jubilee" organized by the Old Boys Association.
