Singing and performing since she can remember and daughter of a former music teacher and musician, Shelley Anderson grew up in Houston, Texas singing Country western, Christian, Classical, Big Band and Jazz. Her formal training, vocal qualities, versatility, and musicianship have allowed her to investigate these genres of music, but the style of Country music is what she loves the most.
In 1999, Shelley Anderson decided to pursue her interest in reaching out to children through music. Her teaching, writing, and recording then inspired her to create and develop music programs that parents and teachers could easily use that would promote increased comprehension, self esteem, and stimulate imagination in a positive learning environment. Shelley states, "Young children are really smart, clever, curious, and eager. I keep this in mind when I write a song. I pay particular attention to age appropriate subject matter, word usage, and simple repetitive yet rhythmic phrasing".
Shelley explains, "Early exposure to music will encourage and motivate children to learn during the most critical time of their development. Music is a unique tool that will nurture children and develop more quickly the skills they need for mental and physical growth all of which will lead to future personal and academic success."
With her acoustic guitar, Ms. Shelley teaches original songs encouraging children to fully participate allowing them to play along with musical hand instrumentation, puppetry, and other hands on manipulatives. Shelley Anderson takes her performances and programs to private and public schools, libraries, museums, book stores, and festivals and other organizations such at the Girl Scouts of America.
