| 1/23/03 Good news, I'm going to be picking up a complete rust free cowl section sometime soon, so I won't have to fab up new sections of the old cowl. Just cut out the old and weld on the new. :) Anyways, tomorrow (Friday) I plan to start disconnecting everything from the 302 and get it ready to be pulled out on Saturday or Sunday. After the 302 is out and the cowl is taken care of, I'll start on the floor pans. Tetanis shot anyone? :D 1/10/03 Well, learning to mig weld is a lot easier than it looks, that's for sure. I can now get an actual bead going, without any burn-through. We're going to be renting a engine hoist sometime and getting the 302 out so that it will be easier to replace the cowl and engine bay sheet metal. (can stand inside heh) At that time, I'm hoping to get the 302 sold to make some money for other sheet metal. So, if you know anyone looking for a 302, shoot me an email. :) I'm going to try to get a lot of pics to put up sometime too. That's all for now. 1/6/03 I've been taking some time looking at the engine bay and I think I've figured out how I'm going to plumb all the piping. The only part I'm not sure about yet is the intercoolers. (I've changed my mind to using 2 seperate DSM intercoolers, and using 1 for each turbo instead of welding them together) They will either sit up against the fender aprons, in front of the radiator, or sit flat on the frame rails. Most people with twin turbo setups have the exhaust going under the headers, but with power steering there is no room for the pipe on that side. So, the exhaust will exit through the side of the engine bay, and continue through the fender, and bend under the car. The 351w is completely torn down, and ready to go to the machine shop, but I need to pick a shop first. While the engine is being rebuilt, I'm going to try to get a LOT of the body work done. I havn't been able to do much because when we bought our welder, there was a huge sale on them. We got the last one, which was the one that was on display. (so the box had been opened) Of course, we were missing a few parts, and had to have a shop in town order them. Well, we got those parts over the weekend and I was able to start practicing welding today! LOTS of fun. :) It took me a while to even get a bead, but it's getting better little by little. I hope to start on the car maybe next weekend, or later next week. 12/23/02 Not too much has been done recently. I do have the 351W sitting in the garage, and that's what I've been working on in my free time. (It's been getting cold outside!) It's completely torn apart right now, it's just the bare block. Everything looks good, but the engine will need to be bored over .30". Now, to the car. I started the cowl project a while ago, but havn't gotten the welder up and running yet, so I can't begin to patch metal in (I need to order a new gas diffusor for the MIG). All that's left for the cowl is to weld in patches, and bolt the top panel back on. After the cowl is POR'd and finished up, I'll go in this order: 1.) Floor panels, supports, and torque boxes/Frame rail patches 2.) Engine compartment sheet metal 3.) Quarter panels/Taillight panel 4.) Strip paint on the roof, and get the dents hammered out 5.) Get new door skins, weld them up and bolt on That's it for now... |
