End of 'The Moes' Experiment

April 3, 2009
by Moe Diggity

The postseason for the Moes is mathematically and, by all accounts,
realistically, over.  A 1-and-1 record in our  round-robin with a
plus/minus of -1 makes it impossible for us to move on no matter
what happens on April 8th's  game between the Icemen and the
Spitfires...

A win or a tie for the Icemen and they're through. An Icemen loss would still see them or the Spitfires advance depending on what the score
was. In the unlikely event that the Spitfires beat the Icemen (not that it can't happen -- and I actually hope it does just for the sake of seeing an underdog advance), they'd have to do it by more than 3 goals to clinch a berth into the next round.  They could actually advance of they win by 2 but it would depend on the ASHL's tie-breaker system to see who moves on.

Anyways, the season is done and once again there seems to be uncertainty in regards to the future of this team. Two players already handed in their jerseys; a clear indication they they will not be returning (good luck on getting your deposit money back from Moe Foe).  It's speculated that there are several others that will not be returning though we have yet to hear it directly from those players.

At the beginning of the season it was decided that we would not use the "16 Guys Named Moe" name and just go with  "The Moes".  After all, while there were six players that played for 16GNM on a full-time basis at one point or another, the majority of the players were new recruits.  It was a way of keeping a little bit of the old while mixing in a whole lot of the new.

Looking back, there were many 'positives' that came from this season. Such as:
- Beating the Bulldogs (again)
- Dressing room beers
- Getting the chance to play with some new faces who turned out to be a good bunch of guys (Chris, Jeremy, Mark, The Sevags)
- Parking lot beers (even in sub-30 weather)

However, the thing I'm most positive about this past season is that I'm positive "The Moes" experiment is over.
